Man this thread is killin me. It started because i had a few beers, looked at the prices of Friedman and some others and vented. Look Marshall is responsible for loads of killer tones. No queston. But they have failed to do the obvious. They have failed to make that aggressive Plexi amp that they should have been building since the 80s. Proof? Look how many amp modification companies have popped up offering hot rodded Marshall tones. Bogner is building a Marshall. Friedman is building a Marshall or two. The list could go on and on. If Marshall would have paid attention to what the Market has been begging for forever we wouldn't have to pay over 3 grand for a goddamn hot Plexi. Marshall has been missing the obvious opportunity for decades because it's been to busy riding the wave from the 60s and 70s. Marshall amps i love you but kids today don't typically have pics of Page, Hendrix and Van Halen on their wall. Many are growing up listening to "heroes" that are using other amps if even tube amps at all. Pay attention to your fan base and build the amp you should have built years ago. Thats my simple request. I am a nobody but i can 't believe i'm the only person wanting this amp from Marshall.
Maybe "missing the obvious" in the RT crowd. But the whole musician world doesn't revolve around RATT licks
I get the humour in the RATT reference. I even tend to agree with you in general.
However, the key point that is missing here is that the majority of players buying tube amps do not want a "modded" Marshall tone. In fact, the majority of players don't even have a clue what that means.
Guitar players on the forums are a microcosm of the overall global population of guitar players. We are much more informed, picky and willing to open our wallets when it comes to our gear wants and purchases. Joe Blow guitar player couldn't care less about Bogner, Friedman, Cameron, Suhr/CAA, 3 Monkeys, [insert any boutique builder's name here], Jose/Colby/Bray or "modded" amps in general. They are ECSTATIC with their stock Marshalls, Fenders, Oranges, etc. that they can walk into their local music store and pick up for under $1.5k - and there is nothing wrong with that. In fact, in over 25 years of playing, I have never played with another guitar player that spent more than $1k on their amplifier head or combo. They certainly weren't having their amps modded, and they didn't have the name "Soldano", "Reinhardt" or "Diezel" on the front panel of their amps either. Audiences did not empty out of venues when the other guitar player struck a chord, and complaints about guitar tones were not lodged by ticket purchasers. In fact, most of the guys I've played with over the years have thought I was NUTS for spending such high dollars on gear. To each their own. One is not better than the other - just different. But I am in touch enough to realize I am the one in the minority when it comes to "gear spend".
And this is why Marshall is not building the perfect "hot rodded" amp - because the demand
isn't there. At this point, Marshall's business model/approach is focused on maximizing margins, delivering large volumes of their products and maintaining their global brand recognition and market share - it's not about catering to a microcosm of the guitar playing population through low volume, low margin product offerings.
