I'm using a Marshall Bx cab ATM with V30s' on the bottom. I find the GB M25 RIs' a little dark. I did have a EVH cab before this a liked it better. So I have just ordered a AHX handwired cab with the GB H30s (supposively the same speaker as the 5153 cab). I will post a review after I get the new cab. Any experiences?

I've got a BX Marshall Hand-wired with the UK made H30's in it and it is over the top for me. I haven't even opened this cab up and it has cured the need to roll speakers for me. Everything sounds nice with it. Not sure if it is the build, construction, or grill cloth...but, it sounds different than my Bogner cabs that I have opened up a few times. Got mine straight from Marshall through Brad. He can save you some dough.

If it's anything like the 5153 cab I will be happy. I opted for the angled as I have trouble hearing myself with the straight cab. Could be because the V30s' (bottom) overpower the GBs' (top) and are running at my feet. I may try an X pattern.
I'm in Australia so shipping a cab from the U.S. is not ann option. Prices here have come down here and I can get a HW cab locally for US$1240 delivered. Thanks for the tip anyway.

Didn't notice the address

He may be able to order through local distributors for you. Check with Brad and see. As for the V30/GB mix - that is a problem and you are right, as the V30's will overpower the GB's. Put them in an X will make it more noticeable too.....I experimented with this. Your other option, if you feel you want to keep some V30 in the mix is to get a couple of of the Celestion 65's (or Scumbacks). They are similar to GB's on steroids and will even things out with the V30 output.

I've got some extra 65 watt Scumbacks (16 ohm) here in Saudi with me, if you are looking. Can ship via EMS pretty reasonable.

Not a sales pitch

I have not tried that comb yet Steve. I would think replacing the GB's with the 65's on top might even make the Celestion V30's stick out more because there sensitivity is lower than the GB's. I wonder what would happen if you flip the cab upside down with V30's on top. I am thinking it would even drown out the GB's more.

Yeh the GBs would get drowned out, but it would solve the problem of hearing myself onstage.

Trust in Steve K. The H30s are where it's at.

Don't trust me. It has been proven that I don't know fuck all.

Just tried more speakers than anyone else and got tired of doing that

At the end of the day, it don't really make two shits of difference. Bedroom - yes, stage - not really.

-Any Greenback (Celestion, Scum, Weber, others 25-30, 65 watt) type of speaker, other than the G12T75's are fair game for any Marshall type circuit.
-Don't let SLO's anywhere near a V30 cab.
-Mesa, Diezel, Bogner and other organic type tones, the V30 is great.

That is what I learned.... :D

Hey Steve,

It has nothing to do with trust, it has to do with experience. You have just shown the experience, thanks for the rundown.

Personally, I can't disagree with your findings. I have found similar results using Marshall Classic 4X12 cabs (25 watt celestions), Diezel 4X12 cabs loaded with V30's and K100's...tried with many amps...Diezels, Splawn, Bogner XTC, Mark V and IV, and my SLO...you have summarized a great deal of trial and error

I have a pair of custom Ear Candy ported 1X12's that are loaded with Eminence speakers, they sound sweet as well.
I do enjoy the Diezel cabs with the K100's which you didn't mention. Lately I have been running a full stack with V30's in the bottom cab and K100's in the top. NICE!!

:D

All good advice. I do like the GB/V30 mix in most amps though. I always mic a GB live but sometimes the V30 sounds good for a particular part when recording. I will run the Heritage cab with GBH30s' for a while and see how it works.

What's Everyones thoughts on the marshall 1960BHW with the Heritage G12H30's?

Gotta keep most Hughes & Kettner away from V30'S IMHO as well. Now, TriAmp MK II into H30S -- BRILLIANT!!

V30's and 65's in a X pattern are smoking. V30's mix well with most Celestion speakers. But I agree that some amps just don't like the V30's. I had a Soldano Hot Rod 50 that sounded like a swarm of beez with'em. HR50 sounded like ass with other cab/speaker combos but the V30 were the worst.

Cab arrived today. Fisrt impression is that it's heavy, those handles must be solid. I like where the eq of the speaker is, nice and bright in the mids, not as dark as the GB m25s' Very nice! I like it better than my old EVH cab. Well constructed, quality tones.
