Just got in from my Test run with the JCM 800 Kerry King 2203kk.
Its sounds DAMN CLOSE to the FJA amp I owned that was HEAVILY modded but a little meaner.
It doesnt have that "PERFECT" feeling the FJA had.....but it serves its purpose.
And it takes a boost that drives it into a bliss tone.
I am happy with it.
I thought it would be 'heavier' sounding but actually glad its not.
Does great 80's Marshall tone too.
Can actually FEEL the power when standing in front. The KT88's push that amp!
Glad I have that Marshall tone back and it does sound good and has a good vibe.
Glad its not "METAL" like I was worried it would be.
Oh it can do Slayer hands down.........but turn off the BEAST mode and its a stock sounding JCM 800.
Built in noise gate on it that comes in handy when running a boost.
No squealing like a pig!
Didnt really know what to expect when swapping but hey....its only gear and it can be flipped! ;)
I give it two thumbs up!
We play alot of old school thrash metal and running the course tonite it held its ground easily.
Went off into Ratt, EVH Land.........No problem.
I like a clean boost in front of it.
Really gives it a different flavor.
Glad to own it. :2thumbsup:

Now I go into Elmwood M90 land Tomorrow!
Clips and more review to come on both amps......

Don't worry about being heavy. The Elmwood is plenty metal if thats how you set it.

Congrats and enjoy the Marshall

I just like that RAW Marshall tone......

Here is going to be my HEAVY!!!
Picking it up from the FedEx hub in the Morning......... \:D/

Damn this tone is SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!

I have to get a V30 loaded cab. My greenback loaded Marshall 4x12 is ok with the Elmowwod but when I played through Greg's aka Hard&Heavy's Diezel cab or bstaleys Mesa cab the Elmwood was just wicked. I am convinced that V30s are they way to go with the M90.

I wonder how its going to sound with my Randall Lynch Box Cab.
Its loaded with Super V's.
I like the way all the amps I have played thru it sound.
Nice and deep sounding.
I am going to take the Elmwood to my local music store during my lunch break since after picking it up I have to go stragiht to work and run it thru a couple of cabs.
High hopes for this bad ass amp........

I have to own it at LEAST 3 hours before I sell/trade it!!

Am I as bad as Brad (rigtalk) on flipping gear?? :D

Nah......he is KING!!

Hey Mailman, how would you say the stock JCM 800 mode holds up compared to an original 800, say from the early 80s or something? Is it bang on? If I eventually decide to add another amp to the collection, if I want to get a new Marshall (and then perhaps mod it) that might save me a bunch of hassle :)

I think the stock side of the Kerry King sounds like a stock JCM800 but remember this amp has KT88's so it has that POWERFUL feel more then the EL34's. I just traded off a HEAVILY modded 1987 JCM 800 that sounded SUPREME MARSHALL but this amp comes pretty close to it but can get a little meaner due to the KT88's. I hear that some guys dont care for it but I like it.
I owned Cameron modded amps / Egnater modded Marshalls / Splawns / etc.....and this one sounds really good and still maintains the Marshall tone.
Only thing is they arent being made any more.
Maybe you can snag one cheap on Ebay? ;)

Dan

dude that is so messed up reading this post, i just said to splawner on the phone a day before this post, i think the kk sounds like the nick mod, dam close.....I talked to fja about this amp. I got to play one for a quick 5 minuts when it first come out, but had an old marshall, which i sold which i regret, been toying bout gettin another, modded or stock...... then i heard the kk clips on net musicians , they are excellent!

I was pleasantly surprised about this amp. It isnt the BRUTAL DEATH METAL AMP that it is marketed to be.
It sounds like a Hot rodded JCM800!
I think my FJA modded JCM 800 sounded 'better' to some degree but this one gets MEANER and I like that!
It really maintains that MARSHALL tone...........
To me here is a pretty good demo of it...........
I like it alot!

And in the same week........... :D

I also got this one in......... :rawk:

Now I just need to SHUT UP AND PLAY!!

kerry king is a total ass!...... still is, i met him back when i was a kid on seasons for abyss tour, was a dick to the fans at the bus! but his amp is great1

He does seem like an ass from the interviews I seen and read. Never met the Man.
But his amp does rock though!
To me it dont sound like "Slayer" though. Just a super hot rodded JCM.
Oh wait....isnt that what he played in Slayer??

Either way....it is good for alot of style of music.
Going to do some band playing today with that one and the Elmwood.
1st chance to really break these amps in RIGHT! ;)
I will be giving my reviews on both of them tomorrow.
Havent really had a chance to play them only NOODLE around with them.

Do any of you know if this can be modded easily enough for an effects loop? Seems to be the main deal-breaker me...

I am sure it can be.
its basically a Modded JCM 800.
Drop a line to FJA or Dave Friedman about it.
But all it is nothing but a JCM800 modded to the hilt for metal.

When I saw Dethklok a while ago, Brendon Small was using one. The other guitarist used a Rivera of some kind, couldn't see it very well. Sounded great, he didn't even hit a boost or anything going from rhythm to lead as far as I could tell but the leads were still easily discernible.

So you using the amp just straight in or any FX up front?

I was wondering how well it would clean up run as a crunch amp and then hit with pedals for the brootal (and delay up front).

I am playing it straight in.
No effects.
I add a boost and it makes this amp INSANE!!
Especially with the BEAST mode!
Great great Marshall tone!
