I have a 50 & 100 watt Marshall JMP's going to the tech for tune up, new power tubes and bias, clean bill of health....
Both will remain as close to stock as possible for now. The 100 has EL-34's and the 50 has 6550's.
Both have original filter caps which will be replaced. What brand/model filter caps do yall recommend to keep the sound as close to original as possible?

Go with ARS. They are far better than F&T imo. I compared in my Marshall as I had a about 8 F&T here. I found the ARS much closer to the LCR or Dalys in my Marshall. I believe 100% filter caps make a difference. F&T give a grainy tone. Tell him to change your bias caps to Sprague 10uf Atoms. The black ones. Tell him not to cheat and lift the board. He can get the board up enough by removing the pots and jacks and just taping it back on an angle so he doesn't have to desolder any preamp leads.
I do cap jobs like this in Marshalls. I maneuver the leads out of my way as much as possible and tape them to get at each bias cap for removal and re installation.

This seller is very good. He is honorable as 6 caps were lost and he sent replacements asap.

Agree with above... I had all six changed out of an amp I owned a while ago with the ARS can caps and they sounded just like the originals...probably didnt have to replace them after all...glad I kept them

ARS's are the way to go, tried JJ's and F&T's. As soon as I fired up the amp with the ARS's it was 'right' finally...

Exactly. It just wasn't right until I put in the ARS.

Thanks for the input.
Does anyone know where the ARS's are made?

Don't know All I know is they are remake's of the old LCR's and made to those specs.

Probably as much as the difference between a maple fret board and a rosewood. jk

I have an 87 2555. It has F&T caps, the tone isn't as smooth as I remember my previous Jubilees being. Not bad at all, but grainier like Gary said.

And who knows, if I change them to ARS then clearly that's the difference.

Better low end. Tighter. Can give lower noise floor. Not always. Depends on how the old caps are. I have changed them and the amp became very quiet. I have also had minimal if any difference.

I've changed caps in amp only to have it sound like complete shit afterwards. I always number the caps just in case this happens... so I can put them back in. lol

I use F&T in all my amps and they are great.

They are a very quality cap for sure Steve. Your amp is designed with them and it's a very solid choice.
We are only referring to replacing caps in a vintage Marshall that used Daly's or LCR where the F&T are quite a bit different than the originals. I know you have experience with this.

My Jubilee sounds more 'raw' if you will with F&Ts, less smooth than what I'm used to in this circuit. But this is the first 100w Jube I've owned, and its an early serial number. Supposedly some different circuits(slightly) over the production run. It does have less low end, this one maxed equals my later circuit 50w at 6. But the distortion is a bit different. Splitting hairs but there it is. Still love the tone!
