Marshall JVM410

I was actually able to take one out back with a Mesa cab and a guitar with Seymour JB's, pretty much what I will have when I get the JVM. They let me turn the thing up pretty good to the point where the restaurant next door complained hahah! This amp absolutely RIPS! Every channel sounds great stock. I might set up a rotary switch on the back with the resisters for the different mods (60s Plexi, 70s Plexi, Stock JVM, and EVH Plexi) that I found on another forum. Would allow me a lot more selectivity for the amp on top of the insanely versatile nature of the amp stock.

I definitely want to get one soon I just need to sell my Framus Cobra. Unfortunately I got HOSED on ebay so I have to re-list the amp where I had it for sale and hopefully find enough interesting posts on here and other places to get to within the minimum post limit for classified listings...

My boy in the above vid did that to his....it sounds better than ever now. GREAT sounding amp, but that just took it over the top. I think you're gonna love it, man. Good luck dumping the Cobra.

The JVM410 I have is just a high gain amp. If you dime the gain you need to volume down your guitar and get some distance from the amp. It does not have the issues with the hiss and all that, any different than any other extreme gain amps. I have an ISP pedal, I don't use all the time, and I use the volume on my guitar, as with any amp.

I would say if someone has a super hissing and squealing amp, there is something amiss in he signal chain.

As others have said, it is a great and versatile used amp on the cheap.

^This. I use an Isp Decimator G String with great results. Turn it off on the clean channels.
And for all those recommendations to get a JS version of the 410, keep in mind that it doesn't have the same OD2 channel that the regular 410 has.

I had a JVM for several months. The only reason I got rid of it is I play at home only. Too loud for home, but OMG the JVMs have some of the best most versatile tones out there. One of the better amps I've owned.

My rig is a little over the top honestly... I have 3 levels of noise suppression from ISP so I don't think much will get past that hiss wise.

I always have a stomp box ISP out front to kill noise from the guitar and have 2 different levels of reduction through the FX loop to help kill amp noise. It's a trick I used with my old 5150s and it works really well. You don't have to max any of them out, still LOTS of play room. Layering them seems to allow the levels to be set lower and i seem to get more sustain that way. Might be an illusion but still not worried about noise lol

If I could keep the cobra and get a JVM... I definitely would honestly. I love the amp to death. When I want to play Acacia Strain or Emmure style stuff for fun with my bro on drums, it does the job really well. The clean channel is actually modded like a ruby riot so it's really chimey sounding. Just gotta move 1 to get 1 unfortunately right now or my racecars have to get put on hold and that is NOT an option ;)

I would take the money you would spend on the 410 and buy a splawn quickrod.

OK... Here's the deal. I think everyone knows I'm a Splawn fanboi and Featured Artist, so I'm going to lean towards Splawn, for MY purposes. I had a JVM410H and it was a good amp. Not a great amp, but a good amp. While I initially liked having the 12 modes at my MIDI whim, over time I found I was only using three of them: everything else either sounded lousy (OD2 Red) or simply didn't fit my needs. I wish the Splawn was MIDI, but that's easily fixed with a GCP/GCX. You don't need the amp Gizmo to control the Splawn. I MIDI switch all four of my Quick Rods functions with a GCX and a Rocktron All Access. In my experience, anyone who says the Splawn doesn't sound better than the JVM is either dialing in the Splawn with their eyes, not their ears, or is upset because the Splawn reveals every flaw in their lousy technique; the Quick Rod is not a forgiving amp.

If the Cobra isn't doing it for you, you want the Marshall sound, and you want the native MIDI, a used 410H in good condition is a good amp to have. You might even look at one of the 2-channel JVMs if you don't need/won't use all the modes.

I think it comes down to what features are more important to you. I think the Splawn is a better sounding amp, but the JVM is more modern and feature-rich. I would buy a Quick Rod; I encourage you to get the amp YOU like best.

Satch Marshall is amazing! Absolutely love mine! It sounds great. So many different modes and sounds on it and has everything you need. Very happy with it!

How's it do at home..."living room" volume levels (understanding almost EVERY amp sounds better loud)?

I do love how the Splawn stuff sounds. However the JVM with so many different modes really caters to what I now do musically. Im just a jam musician these days and sit in with 3 or 4 different bands from time to time. My brothers band, which plays some nasty heavy stuff close to The Acacia Strain style of play and old Bury Your Dead (cover your tracks album) style... Then my dad's main band which is predominantly blues/old rock. Then my dad has a couple other jam bands, one of which even jams on some Zac Brown Band and Jason Aldean hah!!! I actually just pulled my old 5150II out of the closet to see if I can get that thing running again (it broke and I never looked into the cause... typical Peavey) But I really think for the overall style differences in my play these days the Marshall will do me well.

With the JVM however, we do not plan to keep it stock at all... Already looking into a choke, merc's and a rotary switch on the back for the 60s Plexi, 70s Plexi, EVH plexi and Stock modes for OD1, and we are trying to look at a way to Browneye OD2... I don't really mind playing around and my friend Jeff who does all my tech work did the mercs and choke mods on his JVM and he said it sounds a lot bigger as a result.

I appreciate the input, and who knows... I may be looking for a QR or Nitro in the future as a second amp lol There is no denying they are awesome pieces of equipment!!!

One last note though... I have the GCX/GCP as I previously stated... But I have all 8 pedal slots taken up, is there still a way to switch the Splawn with them if the pedal slots are taken up?

Thanks!
