Marshall JVM410H + Mode Four MF400B Cab Video Added

Since I picked up my JVM410H I've been wanting to get a Marshall cab for it. I'm not a fan of g12t-75's all by themself in a cab, so that rules out most cabs you'll find in the used aftermarket. I was thinking of picking up one of the Marshall mode four cabs. They have a larger internal volume than the standard cabs and use the Celestion K-100 speaker. The guy I bought my Uberschall from said the mode four was one of the few cabs out there that he's played that come anywhere close to the Uberkab.

I mostly play downtuned heavy riffs.

Just picked up a MF400B, previous owners glued Velcro to the corners, people do the dumbest things.

Just got to jam on it for about 15 minutes cranked up. Initial impression is that this is one bad a** cabinet! Definitely nothing like the typical 1960B cabinet. Massive bottom end, lots of cut, lots of chunk. I'll do a recording tomorrow when I get off work. Very good pairing with the jvm410. Each of these is THE baddest Marshall piece I've played. Keep in mind I pretty much just mean heavy downtuned stuff. I'll check out the rock and clean tones as well.

Jammed on it while on my lunch. I played the Marshall, Bogner, & Krankenstein. They are at different locations in my room and the Marshall cab is sitting directly on the floor, so I'll have to do some better comparisons later. I think the Marshall cab directly on the floor and not on casters really spreads the low end response out. Hopefully I can find some casters to fit it locally.

those cabs are supposed to be the bomb. everybody raved about the cabs,(esp. the k-100 loaded ones) but said the heads were shit. i know alex skolnick absolutely loves the mode 4 though.

All I have heard and seen has been good. I watched the Alex rig rundown video, crazy how simple his rig is

I owned one for a while. I ran a Mark IV head into it and it sounded great. The K100's made it a little dark but the added "woof" gave the Mark a bit more low end authority.
I wouldn't recommend one for heavy de-tuned stuff though. If you want any kind of articulation and note clarity I'd suggest something tighter and smaller.

I have one for 10 years now, it blows. I played it paired with a vintage Marshall, a 5150 or 5153 and works absolutely great!
I have a Marshall BV with V30 too, but for everything below C# tuning the MF is the winner. More definition, clarity and articulation. Great shame that this cab is no longer manufactured.

That makes sense since the speakers are higher power handling.

Anyone have an idea what a fair price for one of these cabs would be?

I once tried an avatar traditional 2x12 cab with k-100 with the evh 50 watt and sounded huge. I had to turn the resonance knob all the way down.

I put a K100 in a 1 X 12 combo amp. Perfect speaker for turning a boxy sounding combo into sounding bigger than it is. 4 of them in a closed back Marshall cab has to sound huge.

Ive grown accustomed to only running 4x12's, or even 2 4x12's so anything less sounds wimpy. Any cabinet not worth its weight will be known immediately. This cabinet definitely pulls its weight. Ill be messing with it more later and comparing it to my Krankenstein & Uberkab. Those two are my favorite cabs Ive ever owned/played so far. The Marshall sounded excellent through both of those cabs, but I couldn't pass up picking up one of these not so easy to find MF cabs. Had to drive way out in the sticks to get it too.

Awesome. Let us know if they have the K100s or the VintageMFs. I prefer the VintageMFs which are the same speaker Avatar used to make the Hellatone 60L.

Yea, I should've realized the 400B meant 400 watts. I'm a moron. The VintageMFs seem to me like they are between the K-100 and Vintage 30.

I'm not super familiar with the MF series Marshalls. I mostly wanted to try something different speaker wise, & coincidentally I just picked up the Marshall JVM410H, so it was the perfect opportunity to get a not so common cab with not so common speakers.

Took it to my living room, & wow. My house is entirely wood floors except for tile in the bathrooms, 16' vaulted ceiling through the mid portion of the house. It really came to life out there. Sounded like two full stacks. Actually tried thr crunch channel, that is also a no nonsense channel. Marshall definitly did their homework with this amp & cabinet.

Yeah that seems to be how it goes. Haven't got around to plugging any of my other heads into it yet. Its unfortunate that this cab is 8 ohms and my others are 16 ohms so i wont be able to do two cabs with this cab & others.

I suppose I could wire it for stereo with 2 of the 12's, but that would be kinda defeating the purpose. I may have to just get another 8 ohm cab
