Marshall May Want To Seriously Consider...

I don’t think I’ve ever heard fluff have a good tone. Always kinda muddy and flat no matter what he’s using.

Also what is up with manufacturer demos always having the worst editing, like 5 seconds of playing with artsy moving camera angles then some talking, some more no-context playing… not much of a demo when there’s almost nothing about settings or gear used, no comparisons to ‘stock’ modes to even show what the switches do. I guess they just hire people who make tv commercials to produce the videos.

Yeah there is a "donk, donk," in the sound that i can't put my finger on. Missing that low end chug a bit. As a comparison, here is a Studio 900 for just over $1000:

Well, Fluff can't dial in a Marshall to save his life. At least not yet. I think he's just too used to the Mesa sound and is trying to replicate that with the Marshall.

Marshall needs to hire Santiago back.

He can update the JVM and maybe some of the amps they mothballed that pro guys were clamoring for after playing the prototypes (Slash and Aldrich being two of them) can get released. Nobody is holding their breath though. I had high hopes for the two modded amps.

That was grainy nasty shit. Even with their mods, the 1959 is just not meant to be Nu-Metalled. Only band I ever heard, in a similar vein, do it right, was System of a Down when he went through his SG / Plexi phase.

Alright, I watched the video on my tv (with soundbar and sun) and I actually really dig that tone as a base tone. I like the grainy nastiness it has. Hitting it with a SD-1 would probably sound killer.
Is it amazing? Nope. Would I pay $3500 for it? Nope. If that was my only amp would I be sad? Not at all. Are there 10 other amps for the same price or less that I would rather have? Yup.
Marshall should make a 50 watt version and sell it for $1500.

I mean honestly what Marshall doesn’t understand that Jeremy, myself, Jason, Shea, and FourT do, is that just adding diodes to an amp doesn’t automatically make it sound like a badass high gain Marshall. You have to completely retune the whole amp dynamics to favor the diode clipping and balance with it and without it. If you favor without the diodes and just add them in with $30 and 30 minutes of work as Marshall has done here, then this is the result.
Hey you can
The diodes just have to be in a circuit like this, outside of the amp

To cleanse the palate:

Thanks I needed that

Isn't amazing how half of the guitar population, including most boogie guys, CANNOT FUCKING DIAL IN A MARSHALL?

Like I would put my "dialing in a boogie" skills up against Fluff or Glenn Fricker's "dialing in a marshall" skills ANYDAY

I would honest to god put money on it

Thanks I needed that
Same.

I'm only recently becoming aware of this, and it is interesting for sure. Unfortunately I think I'm still in that camp myself, but working on it...

"3 guys, 2 amps," think of the clicks you could get!

I still don't get how people get bad sounds out of Marshalls. Like, even if you set everything at noon except for the gain and volume, you hit it with whatever OD or boost pedal of your choice (unless you're a 2000 onwards, in which case you don't have to), and you're already getting usable sounds.

100%

I agree! It is probably like that old saying "too many cooks in the kitchen". People just adjust and change and F with stuff and they should just leave it alone. Those sounds are iconic back in the day, why screw it up?
