The crunch channel was probably the best thing on it , but found it was to bluesy to get into rock territory and the od channels sounded thin , not to mention the unusable compressed gain that made the amp squeal lig a pig.
Infact my band mates said it was the worst amp they heard me use , o yer the fx loop was rubbish too .
I have a few amps now and have had many many others over the years but for live work I have been gigging the evh 5150 mini 50 watt ,,, fantastic amp , love it , only thing that I could say about it is I think the red channel lead is a little thinner than blue , and find myself trying to tame the treble slightly , just being picky really as I do love the amp .
I'm in two bands ,one tribute band and one rock cover band and could do with something more versatile as in something that could go from metal to rock to pop in a few seconds , I felt the evh was more metal though I could get other sounds with adjustment , but it was defiantly more on the heavy side .. Ok yes I'm waffling.
Right then I saw the new satriani head in the local shop and thought I would give it a whirl , as I can return it in 7 days if I didn't like it, when I got it home I tried it , I thought it was pretty good but was thinking , I have all these other cool amps , do I really need this one as it wasn't blowing me away.
From experience I know you shouldn't judge a gigging amp at bedroom level so I thought I would take the amp to a gig but also take my evh incase the sound check was bad , anyway I used the Marshall all night and really enjoyed playing it , I was mainly using the crunch channel in red mode , playing 80s metal , still enough gain to play lead lines and way more gain than the old jvm and then I was using od 1 red for lead.
I was surprised cos I think I preferred playing lead on it more than the evh red channel , with the noise gates on it tamed the amp loads though when backing off on my guitar volume to clean up it kind of cut out a bit cos the noise gate was to high ( I'm sure some tweaking and it could be ok for that ) so yes I was in red mode od 1 and the gain at 1 o'clock and it was very usable , not like jvm .
The fx loop was loads better too , I was using a delay and this time they made the loop into series, I didn't use it to its full potential but gonna test it tonight ad see if I will keep it I have a feeling that I will, it's what I expected the old jvm should have been and think it sounds better at gig volume than bedroom ,it doesn't have some of that 3d quality of some boutique modded amps but also think they are normally amps designed for one thing and not as versatile .
So I think for a gigging guitarist this could be a great amp choice , will let use know if I keep it after giving it one last test .
This gives a complete wrong impression of the JVM. Either you and your bandmates are tonedeaf idiots or you had a faulty amp or both.but found it was to bluesy to get into rock territory and the od channels sounded thin , not to mention the unusable compressed gain that made the amp squeal lig a pig.

Be nice darling. Insults achieve nothing.Everyonesdarling":23ijrvi3 said:This gives a complete wrong impression of the JVM. I didn`t call you an idiot. Read the post again maybe you get it then or maybe not...uglyfuzzface":1o2fg3c4 said:I suppose I spat my dummy out before , cos I wrote it really fast before going out and didn't think anybody would have cared if I put paragraphs in , anyway d-rock altered it and it is much better. I was clearly defending the OP, and advising you on your approach.Everyonesdarling":1bx91jc0 said:I didn`t call you an idiot. No, that pretty much sums up the majority of JVM's. This is what most people say about them that I speak to on a daily basis about it. Which is why there are so many mods for the damn thing.Everyonesdarling":1z5n6xkv said:This gives a complete wrong impression of the JVM. Yeah I agree that this is suspicious. So, the regular JVM crunch was too bluesy to get into rock territory and the OD channels sound thin?
That sure doesn't sound like any JVM that I tried.
