Well after having my 5881/6l6 stickered SL/X for 3 months now I think the honeymoon phase has passed.
I use a lead high gain British sound almost always using my guitars volume to add or subtract "hair",etc....
I find the 2100 sl/x is nearly as versatile as my Laney gh50l and is a excellent guitar>amp high gain Marshall instant gratifier.

I've loved the sl-x since it came out. I have a Gutierrez modded one now. Loaned it to mailman for a while when he waited on another amp. He loved it.

I still think that is the best high gain amp marshall ever made.

I have always liked those as well. Those and the DSL100 were some of my favorite Marshalls.

For sure. That was the best sounding Marshall I have had my mitts on. And I have owned alot of them. Cameron, Friedman, Splawn, Egnator modded......
Might have to try to get it back in the stable. :poke:

I remember owning one for a month or so about 10 years ago! Key (for me) was to keep the gain knobs below 1:00.

Wound up selling it because it was too 90's gain for me.

They're not bad but if you think you going to get a tight gain for heavy palm mutes without turning to fizz you're mistaken. Good hard rock amp but not a good metal amp. Would still do a pedal with an 800 over this all day long, even for hard rock.

They were the best sounding 900. Much better with EL34 's though like the early ones. Would have been a lot better with a clean channel.

Yeah the SL/X isnt a 800 or plexi,etc..
But it certainly is a Great Modern High Gain Marshall sound.
A 10 band looped eq can really tighten things up Ive found.
I like that the dual gains can shape vintagey too modern.
The amp does better the louder you push and you gotta stand back 15-20 feet too hear the magic.

Of note.
The tubes are all chassis mounted and boards arent as flimsy as other amps ive had.
Actually well built UK example imo.
And zero diodes for gain.

I know where there is a pro-modded SL/X for like $900. PM me if interested (I will in no way gain financially)

I picked up a very clean 50w el34 model recently that's in the repair shop right now. I haven't even switched this thing on yet so quite looking forward to it :)

Played a basement party Fri. night with my buds cover band.
I had the SL/X and a V30-70/80 X pattern Warhead cab.
My bud had his Tremoverb combo and ext 2x12.
Gotta tell you the Marshall sliced nicely in the mix with that Boogie.
Lots of compliments from the band and just a great and loud time..

Got my Fave Marshall SLX coming home to me soon.
Its modded to the hilt. Just pure bad ass. Cant wait to rock out with it again. Thanks Martin!!

I think it's a very good Marshall, close to my 79 JMP.
It rings more that the JMP which sounds more "dry".

If I remember this was the last amp built that way.
