Seems like something in his recording setup is either cutting lots of top end, he's using the neck pickup, or the presence is set low as hell.

Liked the Valvestate 8100 most in that video. The JVM was cool too. I want to try a Satriani JVM.

nope, just using an extremely dark sounding LP with tones of bass.
digging the guitar though...also are those the kind of tones I'd use in a mix...have done it before, worked out alright.
