Other than speakers does anyone know what the difference is between the VM CABS (425B) and the 1960. Build/materials?
Hmmn interesting! I'm one of the few that likes the marshall 1960 with the right speakers, so I was just wondering if the VM was similar.zerohawk":2uq2lsg7 said:When I worked at Sam Ash we got a rundown of the Marshall gear we had from the rep who frequently came in. He told us that the Vintage Modern cabs had speakers that were made to original spec down to using animal hide glue. I don't recall anything he said about the construction of the cab itself though. Those were also the original run of Vintage Modern cabs, so I don't know if they use the same speakers anymore.
Edit: just saw you were only looking for the difference in build quality lol

Funny there was a VM half stack in ATL that I was trying to trade for the VM cab unloaded because I've got speakers, but the guy was selling only! Ayrton I've got a VHT fatbottom that I'm wanting to trade unloaded if ya know anyone up your way. I'm about 2.5 hrs from ATL and would split the drive. Hell I would take a unloaded marshall 1960B if its in really good shape as mine is!Ayrton":2kbe00rs said:The VM cabs are the same spec as the Hendrix cabs, and all three including the 1960 have the same construction.
Good or bad, Marshall has not really changed how the cabs are built since the '70's.
Should sound great. Both of those sound badass in Marshall cabs.Devilinside":39tesrg0 said:id probably be doing straight V30'S or an x-pattern with 75's

Yeah I got x in my 1960B and I really don't get why people think the marshall's are garbage. I love mine! How does the 80/65 cab compare to the 30/75? What are the differences?D-Rock":2rq9g3i5 said:Should sound great. Both of those sound badass in Marshall cabs.Devilinside":2rq9g3i5 said:id probably be doing straight V30'S or an x-pattern with 75's
I've got x patterns in both my Marshall cabs.
V30's x T75's in the 1960A and WGS BL80's x ET-65's in the VM 425A.

Hey Jim,
Yes the 425 cabs are exactly the same build and quality as the 1960 cabs. All dimensions are the same. The differences on the 425 cabs are; -
1. The G12C speakers of course.
2. The covering colour (although I think they have been standardised to black these days).
3. There is no name plaque in the bottom left hand corner. I prefer the look without a plaque as per the first 20 years.
Cool thanks!
By the way, '425' simply means 4 x 25W speakers. It was easier than creating yet another 1960** suffix.
Cheers,
Steve
