I am looking at this amp again instead of the DSL. I'm thinking this amp and matching 4x12, and a slough of pedals may be a good fit for me.

Which would you go with, the 50 or the 100?

Come big or stay on the porch bitch!!!!!!!!!

:D

I would go with the 100 for the extra clean headroom myself. Your style man I really think you will rip on one of those

Thanks Scotty! I think this amp would be a winner for me as well!!

I have a crap load of pedals I could run with it and would probably add a rocket fuel as well. I think this amp would have a great tone with a strat or humbucker equipped guitar thrown at it.

I just got an offer tonight to hook up with another band and i'm going to go for it.

Awesome!

After loving the MK IV for so long I am learning that Marshalls just are easier to cut through and just have that mids vibe going on. We were playing Day of the Eagle today and I had the tube vibe in front....just killer tone!!!

Hey man,

I'd say def go with the 100 watter - reason being is a heard a while back when these had just been out a little while that the 50 watters had very little head room and almost felt like you were hitting a limiter when playing them. I tested this out and noticed it my self - the 100 watter has a much better feel. I'd try to A/B them in a store, you might like the feel of one better than the other but I greatly preferred the 100!

Thing looks great!

That's a heck of a deal!

I can't say which might fit you better. I will say that the 100 watter I owned was not the loudest 100 watt amp I've owned. I will say that if you get a good boost pedal like a Keeley sd-1 or BDD that amp will kill. The loop isn't the greatest because of where it's at in the circuit still usable though. All that said I prefer the VM to any Marshall I've owned. Infact when I get what I deem to be my ideal Marshall-esq module for my Randall I'm going to buy a quad of KT66s to see if I can recapture some of the VMs magic.

Have you heard of anyone getting the loop modded to improve it's performance? I have all sorts of pedals to throw at this amp, DS-1(MIJ), SD-1, Roger Mayer Stone fuzz, bad monkey, ts-10, and a few others I can't remember at the moment. Even though this amp doesn't have a ton of options, like multiple channels, to me the core tone is there especially with the greenback cab. Seems like it would only get better slapping some pedals in front, like a rocket fuel, or 3.14 fuzz, or Emma...

Tried both, have the 100 watter.
I know Zepman loves his 50, but I like the increase in articulation when dialed up for solo'ing. a bit more glassy if you get my drift without pulling out the icepick.
pretty much takes to any pedal you put in front, or effect in the loop, with ease
I use an ocd, a vibe, boss octaver and bad horsie in front and she takes to them just fine. dial back on the guitar to about 5 and hit the ocd and you will be amazed at the tone

I've heard other people say that about the loop, but after using my 100 watter every weekend for a year with pedals in the loop, I don't hear it. In fact, IMO, a delay in the loop sounds good. Maybe I'm deaf from standing in front of guitar amps for too long, but I think the loop sounds fine.

I like it better than any Marshall that I have played so far. You're welcome to drive down the road a piece and give it a spin yourself.

Hey Tweed,

You can always take 2 tubes out of the 100w format and change the impedance on the back to convert it to a 50 watter.

Cheers,

Yeah I looked at a few amps in the past few weeks. Took that long to figure out what I need over the hype of what else is currently on the market. After watching a live show yesterday it was really clear what I need. Basic dirty amp with pedal board out front. I always gravitate back to that setup, for me it just works.

So instead of agonizing over what gear to dump, saving every extra dime i can, and hope some sort of modular/rack setup would work for me, i'm going with what I know. Marshall + 4x12 + pedals + attitude = DONE :D

I will hold on to my XXX head for a while if I can, I can get some damn good tones out of that as well. But the Marshall camp is calling my name and after a few more phone calls today I hope to at least have the cabinet, if not the head as well.

I've got a mint 50 watt halfstack in the shop on consignment. He only put a couple hours on it and never left his house......has all the tags etc....

zepman (John) seemed to prefer the 50Watt VM over the 100, and I thought the tone he got was pretty good.
