I run mine very similarly. Only difference is I run the mids around 9:30 (mid boost engaged) and bump up the body to about 1:00 to compensate somewhat. I run the DD basically the same as you, only slight difference is that I have the tone knob at about 1:00. Sounds great

That sounds awesome.

Can you get a clean at all with that amp?

With the settings mentioned above, my LP has a pretty tough time staying clean even with its volume knob is rolled way down. My strat doesn't have much trouble, though. I'm sure a nice clean tone could be dialed in, but to be honest, I've never really tried it. I rarely go out of the high dynamic range on the VM, although I will with my strat once in a while.

The big issue is the volume difference between the two ranges. The high dynamic range is significantly louder, IMO, and makes it fairly difficult to use just the amp for a clean and crunch tone simultaneously. Using an OD on the low dynamic range would obviously work, but the high range is where it's at on this amp, and I wouldn't want to substitute it for a pedal.

That sounds like you are describing the silver jubilee too. It has a similar issue stock trying to get crunch and clean from the same amp and with a LP its not that clean. Actually the VM clip kind of reminds me of my Silver jubilee

I use mine in the low dynamic range with 2 overdrive pedals and the detail on 10

no pedals = clean(ish)
1st pedal = crunchy rhythm
2nd pedal = solo boost
both pedals = feedback

The Low Dynamic Range is supposed to be close to that of the JTM45 from what I understand. There you can get a nice clean. The High Dymanic Range will clean up depending on how you have the amp set. Mine is set for pretty much the highest gain and then I boost it.

Can we just let this thread die already? I had dreams about this amp last night and it's KILLING ME

You're not HELPING MAN!!!!!  :D

It's good that you got one again because I think this amp is perfect for your style. Great tones. Don't bother selling it again because you know you will just keep coming back to it.

You rule - that first big B chord is probably one of my favourite songs!! Amp sounds great!!!

Dave I think you would like this amp alot. I think it's a different enough Marshall from you others that you wouldn't feel like it was redundant. It's got it's own kinda crunch happening. KT66s are a cool tube.

Here's a video done by gtrman at the vintage modern forum. A more straight forward example of the VM.
