Hi, I am new to the forum and need some help locating some sound clips of Martin Golubs lead mod. Im interested in getting one of my Marshall's modded by him but I haven't found any good clips. Does anyone have a head done by him or have any experience with them? Thanks in advance for the help.

There's one or two floating around here I believe. I thought somebody posted a vid of there's. I do know that mod has an ASSLOAD of gain (from what I hear). If I were you, I'd also seriously consider Mike Fortin or Dave friedman for mods (many others too)

Thanks for the help J.B I just sent Mike Fortin an email. I'm looking to change up some gear and I think I'm shooting to get a few different modded Marshall's. I have a Cameron jose high gain in a plexi re-issue that may be leaving the stable. I'm a big Doug Aldrich/ Demartini fan and Ive hear lots of good things about Martins work. Just really need to hear some more clips to be 100% sure

Send a PM to Dan666. He's hung out with Doud aldrich a few times and knows a lot about the Golub mods.

I had a Martin Golub Modded Marshall and I sold it to fund some more Modded Marshall work by Mike Fortin.
I can tell you with 100% conviction that Martin makes a great sounding mod but there a few things to know. His lead Mod is gain central and if you are looking for it to clean up by rolling off the volume knob then forget it lol Its a set for stun mod and there is plenty of gain even on 1 on the preamp lol. It has a very cool midrange voicing but its not as exagerated as the Camerons.(Which I love)
Now here is the bad news. Ive known a few people who have had problems with LA sound with tubes comming back blown and I personally think that they handled the situation very badly. I also have heard of people waiting twice as long as what they were told but we all know how that goes.

Now with all that said, and I know I sound like a freaking groupie lately but Mike Fortins mods are just as Good if not better IMHO.

I hope this helps.

Gainfreak, did Martin's mod include any type of depth control? Also, which Fortin mod would get me to Demartini/Aldridge tones? Thanks for all the responses, Ive read the forums for months and its been really helpful, finally figured I should post when I started this new Marshall mod quest. Ideally Id like to grab one Golub and one Fortin. Still cant believe there aren't more Golub sound clips. I know they are out there somewhere.... lol

I owned a Martin Golub modded JMP 100watter, and the amp was cool but i ended up selling it off eventually because it wasn't 100% what i wanted tone-wise. It had very little taper on the Gain pot, meaning that the gain levels didn't really change much regardless of where the Gain pot was set. The mod doesnt include a Depth knob by the way.

When i sent the amp in to LASD, i was told it would be like 6-8 weeks roughly because they had a small backlog. I didn't get my amp back until 4 months later, which wasn't fair IMO.. considering the turnaround time i was told in the first place. The tubes were also smashed on arrival, so i had to replace them myself..

I now have a JCM800 50watter, which is completely modded. The mod was done by myself, and Mike Fortin and I spent a lot of time working on the design. He's a very busy guy, but he spent every chance he had, helping me with the mod design.
Mike offers this mod for Marshalls (mention my Jose800 amp to him) and i can honestly say that the mod sounds every bit as good as the Golub mod i had if not better. For my tastes, i prefer it to the Golub... hence the reason for me having it now and letting the Golub go. As Ralph posted, he feels the same way too!

And just to set the record straight, I'm not recommending you go with Mike Fortin just because i got a rough deal on the situation with my Golub mod. But it's because i honestly believe the Fortin stuff is the best stuff around. I have had tons of killer gear come and go over the years, but this modded 50watter will NEVER be going anywhere. End of.

It excels at the Demartini and Aldrich type sounds, and that's the kinda sounds i go for anyway :)  There's a short clip in my sig, demonstrating the tone of the mod. It sounds better in the room though! I'll be making more clips very soon!

Which Fortin mod seems to be the best for the Aldridge/Demartini vibe? I just emailed Mike and I'm supposed to call him next week. Thanks for all the input guys, we all know how hard these decisions can be lol seems my top three are Fortin, Golub, and Friedman so far......

Not good just saw I was spelling Dougs last name wrong lol ALDRICH, some fan I am .......:(

For some reason I see a ton of people spell it like how you had it, I guess people get it mixed up with Tommy Aldridge? :D

If you are into Aldrich look no further, I have a Golub lead mod marshall with a 4-12 loaded with 4 g12h30 anniversary speakers and to me it nails the tone in the Dio push live video on youtube. I also sent you a pm. Art

If you are into the Adrich sound I would get a hold of John Suhr. He will mod your Marshall :)

Cameron Aldrich mod. Good luck finding one though! Has that girth and mid "tweak" you hear there. I am sure other amps come close though that are easier to get.
