For those who don't want to dismiss modeling tones immediately, I got shitfaced and recorded the guitar tracks for this last night (after spending way too fucking long writing the drum track in MIDI!).
I'm using an AxeFX III with some Austin Buddy presets; a Friedman HBE and a boosted JCM800, both with stock IR's. (I tweaked Austin's presets to work for the song/guitar) I used an Ibanez SZ320 with Fishman Devin Townsend pickups, passive setting for the Friedman and active setting for the JCM800.
No, I didn't stay true to the original all the way through, namely the middle harmony section....I copied the part on bass which was probably a bigger bitch than learning the real bass part.
Think I might start a yotube channel called Covers and Cocktails where I do this once a week. It's fun when I'm in between originals.
