Looking to possibly do a wet/dry rig with one of these power amps due to all the things I have been reading about this product recently.

I would be using this set up with the slave out of my new SLO and a rack fx unit.

I also have a barley used 5150 III 50 watt (I'm currently selling) that I could just keep and use to for the slave amp but I was thinking it might just be overkill.

I like that matrix because it is small and could easily fit in my small FX rack and If I could get the same results from the MartixGT800 that would be very cool as there would be no extra tubes to deal with other than my SLO.

I'm sure the 5150 III 50watt loop would be just sweet, but am totally curious to hear from people who have spent time with the matrix..

Any first hand experience and thoughts on this are very much appreciated.

I've had the 800 for about 2 months now. It works great for just what your trying to do.

Have you done any comparisons with using a tube amps FX-Loop/Power Amp in by any chance?

Yes, I've done that. Depending on which tubes you have for that section of the power amp will make a difference. I just preferred the cleaner sound of the Matrix and usability. Its really 2 separate amps built into one unit.
I run a none master volume plexi into a attenuator to a single 4/12 cab. I then run the line out from the attenuator to the Matrix that gives me an additional 2 wet channels. I drop the line out to about instrument level into effects. Basically I now have 3 channels. One completely dry. Sounds pretty impressive.

I've had a GT800FX for quite awhile now and it is absolutely phenomenal as part of a W/D or W/D/W setup. It is plenty loud to compete with a cranked Henning Cherry Bomb (center cab, dry) in my W/D/W setup, it sounds great and weighs next to nothing. I'd never go back to a tube power amp for wet (used to own a 40 lb VHT 2/50/2) - the Matrix is the shit!

Actually it's your old posts from over on Metroamp where I got off my ass and finally got one. A few of us from the slaving threads tried them and realized the value.

Tone Merchants can get the GT800FX…

Yeah, sold the VHT 2/50/2 - the Matrix is 37 lbs lighter and sounds just as good…

$699 or so from Tone Merchants...

Steve

I got mine directly from them in the UK. About $700. They ship UPS though which was a little more than I wanted. Great piece of gear.

I forgot all about the Matrix amps  They also have a 3 channel GT1500. You can run your amp into an attenuator and into the center channel of the GT1500 and still have W//W
