Funny--that's my QR in the vid that I loaned him for the gig. I believe that tone is 1st gear on the QR boosted with the T21 Para up front. Not sure of the exact frequency. Michael is an awesome guy, extremely down-to-earth... case in point--I had no misgivings whatsoever about handing him my QR, letting him use it for the LA Canyon Club and House of Blues Anaheim shows, then returning it to me (which he did).

Can't wait to hear what he's going to do with the gear Scott is building him. Rock on!!

that's got to be cool as hell to have someone like that borrow your amp for a show, man!

how did that come about?

Stryper was the only band that HAD mids in the 80's.

...but they weren't haunting... ;)

Really? I think a lot of 80s bands had mids

You're wrong... Mids were actually invented in 1991...
Weird mids, circa 2003

how did that come about?

Splawn contacted me as I've done some demos for them before. It's just a function of the fact that I happen to own a Quick Rod and a Nitro and live in the Los Angeles area. I've always been happy to take my amps out to those who may otherwise never get to hear/play one live and in person so they asked if I could help them out since Michael is a Splawn Artist, but his amps weren't done yet. That JCM900 in the vid was what he was using for sound check until I showed up with the QR and Nitro. He was SO happy to have them there as the JCM900 was sounding terrible. We tried both the Nitro and the QR at sound check and, not surprisingly, Michael favored the QR--just good validation that he has ordered the right amps from Scott. The JCM900 was disconnected and became the backup amp, and the QR became his #1 for the Canyon Club show and the House of Blues Anaheim show the following night. This (and other) video is just testimony that the Splawn amps are world-class and have some of the best tone available today.

Cheers,

Race,
is he going to stay with the QR or is he leaning toward the Orange he was using in the other video?
Any feedback from Michael?
Cool story by the way!

From everything I have seen he hasn't used an Orange live for a while. The last tour was Carvins, at least the last two times we opened for them. You've probably seen this photo that I took back in March. He (and Oz) had the same set up in September.

yes..yes you do =D They're not weird...they're just there..in your face...tight and angry...kinda like some of my ex girlfriends...but that's not important right now...

seriously...there's nothing weird about them..the tone is what it is, got nothing to do with odd mids or this or that...people are either going to like the tone at the end of the day or not (pretty much the same story as anything really)...is it a hot rodded marshall tone? yeah..but it's scott's take on it..so it's probably different than what people would think...maybve that's why weird got tossed in there...and got beaten into the ground like a dead horse..but, once again..that's not important right now

one thing is for sure..you will never ever get buried in a mix
