Maybe this is a stupid question, but that's never stopped me before...

Hey,

I asked AI if Reaper was compatible with the ToneX plugins and AI said that there have been problems at times.

Anyone here used Reaper with ToneX plugins? Did you have any problems? If you did have problems, how did you deal with them? I want to use the 78/79 Van Halen plugin ToneX released. Thanks!

Here's the reply I got to my question:

ToneX 78/79 plugin can work with Reaper, but there are a few things to watch out for:

✅ Compatibility Notes

  • ToneX 78/79 is compatible with Reaper, but some users have reported crashes after recent updates, especially with the standard Reaper installation.
  • A reliable workaround is to install a portable version of Reaper, which seems to avoid the crash issue.
  • If you're using the regular install, try doing a full rescan of your VST/VST3 plugins in Reaper’s preferences. That has helped some users get ToneX working again.

🔧 Advanced Setup Tip

  • If you're on Windows, you can use ReaRoute with Reaper to capture plugin chains into ToneX. This is especially useful for creating your own Tone Models3.
Let me know your operating system (Windows or macOS), and I can walk you through setup or troubleshooting steps tailored to your rig!
