I have the chance to get a set of MCP Detroiters or a set of MCP 2nd degree bb's. What I end up picking will be installed in a Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus. Which set would you recommend? I play 80's metal, hard rock and shred type music and use a Friedman BE 100 as my main amp.

Detroiters. Better for the higher gain. I have them in an LP through an amp I built to be similar to the BE (no sat switch) and it rips. I also have the T-Wrecks and while a bit more articulate, they are less gain and a little more flubby in the bottom end. The Detroiters stay pretty tight for hard rock.

You can't go wrong with either, but for higher gain stuff the Detroiter win out IMO. That said I do have a nd Degree BB in the bridge of my Heritage 150CM and it kicks ass for hard rock stuff.

I have not tried the 2nd degree black belts, but I have a Detroiter set in a LP and they are great! Very clear and articulate, and great for drop tunings.

Check out all my clips... Tis should really help... Sorry no, 2nd Degree BBs... I did have them at one time but I replaced them with BK Black Dogs. Waaaaaaaaaaaay better!

They're way different and both awesome IMO. The black dog is darker and smoother with a big mid hump and the 2nd degree is a little more of the ideal classic crunch sound. Balanced rock perfection in a LP.

Personally I never liked the Detroiters, I love the 2nd Degree though. For me there was something strange in the low end on the Detroiters. 2nd Degree is very open and stringy which I like.
