without Marty Rust In Peace (and all the other albums with him) wouldnt have been as awesome as they were. i LOVE Marty's playing, and i would love to be able to throw some of his style into my own stuff (and my buddy says i do, but i seriously dont hear it...LOL). the way he picks though...never understood, but hes amazing and definitely unique! Broderick is a monster, but even he cant play Marty's solos like Marty can. no one can. but hes a great player, seems like a nice guy, and he doesnt suck...works for me! he was awesome when i saw him play with Nevermore.

as for the videos...i think theres only so much you can do with limited time. throw up some amps, some mics, and hope for the best maybe? either way, they were tight, good song choices, and its great to see Junior back in the band! now if we could only get Nick and Marty to make appearances...i think id die.

the main problem i have with broderick is that he attempts to replicate friedman's solos pretty much note for note (with a little artistic freedom thrown in there). he does a decent enough job, but it's like, if i'm gonna hear marty's solos, i want it to be marty playing them. pitrelli and drover used friedman's solos as a foundation and did about 50% marty and 50% their own licks. while they weren't the marvels that are marty friedman solos, it was interesting to hear another competent guitarist's spin on them.

case in point - 3:39, half marty/half al, pretty neat.
