Is it just me, or are the RT classifieds these days only for rich mofo's? Hardly any mid level gear anymore. Mostly just guitars and amps in the 2-4K range! Who buys used gear at these prices!?
Guess I gotta find a new gear forum. Maybe the guitar and amp board.

Sucks to have to sell stuff to buy stuff. But that's the reality when you have kids.

Seems like it sometimes, but you can always throw up a WTB ad for whatever you're looking for, and give a price range and say hit me. I've done that a few times and had some awesome deals thrown at me.

Sometimes I think some guys don't want to bother with selling unless it's a high dollar item, but if someone specifically comes out and says "I have $800, what do you have?" then they'll look around their stash and throw up something.

All that being said, you can always show up here and get a guitar and amp for under a grand shipped most of the time....LTD Viper and a 6505 on the Classifieds right now in separate listings for like $850 or so...

I was trying to sell an EVH 5150 III 100 watt for $1000

Thought it was a good deal, not even one bite.

Took it to Sam Ash and they gave me $900 credit.

RT has always had a higher proportion of users with more expensive gear?

With me it's like this. I don't always have a lump of cash lying around. I'm either broke one week, or have thousands to blow in the next few weeks. That's just how it works with me. So I figure, if I get a POFS something or other, I'm always going to be guessing whether there's something that I like better.

If I buy (what I think is, based on research and talking to others) the best shit to begin with, at least if I don't like it I'm pretty much sure it's me that is the problem. OCD yo. Why fuck around?

This...

I have theory that if I spend a bunch in high end gear it actually makes me a better player because if im going to invest the coin in the nice stuff, I better damn well invest the time i have to being a better player and justify spending that much in my own mind...

It's just easier to move the more common stuff on Craigslist. But putting an expensive amp on Craigslist is a complete waste of time.

Agree that if you're looking for something and don't see an ad, just post a WTB. But please actually be ready to buy...

I found this to be true for me with my Mark IV (not that a used Mark IV is a particularly "high dollar" amp).

But, what I did find was that the Mark IV was much more unforgiving that any of my other amps that I currently had. It caused me to focus on my playing. Making my playing more precise became a goal.

And, once my playing began to improve, I found that I was choosing to play with a lot less gain than I used to play with.

It's embarrassing to admit it, but I had gotten somewhat lazy. I used to have a Mesa S.O.B. (great amp) and a Marshall Mark-II Lead (another great amp) back when I lived in Connecticut. Both amps caused me to be a better player in the groups I was in. But, the were stolen from me. Due to finances, I replaced them with lower level amps. The replacement amps were much more forgiving, and my playing suffered because of it. I became lazy.

This was one aspect of saving up for and getting a higher level amp that I had not considered. When the Mark IV came in and I started playing, I realized how much I had let myself go (so to speak).

Thanks for reading.

PS: (Totally off the wall and somewhat off-topic). I sometimes wish that we could have a "meet" here in NE Tennessee (or SW Virginia) where you could bring your amps and let people how didn't have the same amp as you (but always wanted to play through one just to see what it was like) could do so.

I would love to attend something like that. There are several amps that I would love to play through, but they are out of my financial reach for me to "buy and try" one:
- Mesa Heartbreaker
- Mesa Stiletto
- Mesa LSS
- Bogner Goldfinger
- Marshall Silver Anniversary

(You may now return to the original thread. Thanks for allowing me to interrupt).

Don't sweat it, most people aren't buying these items much anyway. There is some cool stuff on here that catches my eye from time to time but with the weak Canadian dollar I can't do it. When the dollar was equal it was easier to talk myself into buying the higher priced stuff. Now its a joke, at least for me.

There is also stuff in here that lists for brand new prices like the KSR amps. I mean wtf is that. I just look and laugh sometimes.

I'd say that mid level gear will sell just as well on CL, and you don't need to deal with shipping or pp cuts. High end gear gets sold here because this crowd tends to be interested in that sort of thing. *shrug*

It does require patience though. Some things I've sold in minutes, others are taking months to go.

People on CL are some of the cheapest unmotivated people I've ever come across. BOTTOM FEEDERS.
They show up at my door and my wife hides anything sharp.

I've sold all of my stuff on RT with great success. Never an issue. Great folks here!

See, one of the great things about Rig Talk is that it's mostly all high end gear being sold in the classifieds. There are lots of places to buy junk, but RT is generally not one of them.

RT attracts a different type of folk, we don't have the "kid" crowd around here, instead it's 20's-50's professionals, that yes.. dabble in and are mostly interested in "pro" gear.

That may come off a bit cocky, but I bet I can speak for a lot of guys here when I say we are not interested in what Line 6, Squire, Blackstar, etc. comes out with and would like to skip those brands all together in the topics and for sale forums.
