The user base here on RT like expensive and "boutique" gear. The people here buy high end stuff, then find new high end stuff to buy, so they sell their high end stuff.

There are plenty of other outlets for selling cheaper and more common gear, like Craigslist and Ebay, or Reverb. Listing more expensive/less common gear on those services will lead to low balls, annoying questions that could be answered with a simple Google search, and spam. Go to places like RT to find boutique gear, go to your local Craigslist/Ebay/etc.. for common stuff. Reverb seems to be the exception, as it's a good place for gear in both of these categories. I find myself browsing Reverb when I can't sleep at night, just for fun.

Just to orient you, I don't have any "expensive" gear anymore, at least in comparison to the gear we see talked about here. The most expensive thing I have is a $700 Breedlove acoustic, which is pretty much all I play. I haven't owned an amp in almost 4 years. I paid $140 for my vintage B.K Butler Tube Driver, which could be considered a "boutique" piece if you'd like.

RT has been a rich man's board ever since I've been here. There's deals to be had but it's never been chock full of mid-level gear.

Nah, plenty of mid range stuff to be had. I've bought n sold stuff ranging from $100-$1500 here.
Good forum to swap gear.

Cheap stuff is easy to find. But if you want a Diezel, Cameron, KSR etc...Thank the maker for rig talk classifieds.

Not to mention the ability to post a "looking for" thread.

And as for price, whom else was amazed to see a rev green Uberschall go so cheap recently? It's a buyers market right now.

I haven't been able to sell much on any forum lately, so I gave up for a while. If I'm not going to get a decent price, then I might as well just keep it.

Yeah that was nuts.

Personally I have bought/sold/traded gear of many levels here on RT.
I buy/sell/trade here because, for the most part, guys here are straight up and I have excellent transactions. There are always outliers, yet for the most part it's a decent experience.

Plus, this is a place where some of THE best gear around is for sale and trade. The classified section here kicks ass over most music stores. Finally, I like to get AND give good deals. So, fair deals can be had where everyone is happy. Just my experience, YMMV.

In keeping with true RT Classifieds style, I'd offer up $200 and some pocket lint to anyone selling $4k amp LOL :D

"By my calculations if you listed this on eBay, you would pay xxxxxxx in fees. Therefore, I'm factoring it in... it's more than fair."

I have my MKV on Craigslist locally for $1350
That's a fucking gift if you ask me.
No bites other than assholes emailing me ridiculous low ball numbers.

$200 + Pocket lint

I know! I stopped listing gear here because it was just ludicrous

There's some amazing stuff in the classifieds. Sometimes I find it's better not to look at it!

While I think there's something to be said about not needing to spend big bucks on expensive music equipment, there is a definite correlation between cost & quality.

I'm in the process of switching out my Suhr Custom. Bit of a noob lesson learned there. First time I've ordered & resold a custom guitar and the resale loss is the hardest thing to come to terms with. Much more-so than saying goodbye to the guitar.

I've owned some expensive shit over the years. My opinion is
1-Suhr, Anderson, PRS you're paying for fancy finish. That's all. Oh wait.. not all and name and bragging rights.
2-There is in no way a $2000 difference can be warranted between import and their USA made counterparts.
3-Tone is in the fingers. Get decent gear and spend the rest on lessons.

Feel free to bash away

There is a correlation. .. to a point. But there's a threshold where it reaches a point of diminishing returns or buying a $4k bolt on guitar, fir example, because you simply can afford that. My lynch cost $1600 back in the day. They have tripled in price. Do I love it? Yes. Is it "worth" $4k? Fuck no. I think lots of dudes get hung up on price, at which point the placebo effect kicks in.

This is a hot take. What are your thoughts on low cost alternatives to Suhr and Anderson?
