I have a spare Mesa 2:90 sitting around and was wondering, if I put a bass preamp in front of it, could I use it as a power amp for a bass rig? Figured I'd ask before selling it to buy another power amp.

Should probably kick ass. If you have two cabs and can run both channels, even more ass.

I'm thinking you could even plug straight in without any preamp in front

Worked for guitar, should work for bass...

Edit: There's an instrument input, so yeah, definitely

Absolutely...been there, done that. Change the input in the back to instrument level and you can plug straight in...no preamp needed. You'll get a big, round bass tone...great for blues, reggae, and rock, but not so good for funky slap/pop style playing.
