Is it possible to run EL34s in these power amps? I think running 6l6s and EL 34s in the other side might sound good for a stereo setup...kind of a best of both worlds

You'd probably need to do some serious bias mod to swing that. In the end, you'd be using tubes in an amp that was designed for a very different tube. Not sure how that would turn out. :scared:

I would be concerned aobut the higher heater current required for the EL34s as well. I think some of them have an EL34/6L6 switch. If it doesn't I wouldn't mess with it.

If you are after that particular option. Randall built one. See deets below.

The Randall RT2/50 is a 2 channel power amp with channel 1 featuring 6L6's and channel featuring EL34's. Each channel can be changed via midi making it easy to match the appropriate power section to each module. Or setup the power amp for 100 watts stereo mode.

50/50 watts mono (Channel Switching mode)
100 watts stereo (Normal stereo mode)
Channel 1- Ruby 6L6's (Standard)
Channel 2- Ruby EL34's (Standard)
Three 12AX7's
Master volume control
Master presence control
Master density control
MIDI in/thru
Front panel Bias section
4/8/16 ohm selector (each channel)

I believe the newer 2:50 has a bias switch to run either but not the 50/50.

The RT 2/50 was discontinued and so are the parts :gethim:

The newer stereo 2:50 poweramp has an bias switch on the back so you can use either 6l6 or el34. I have just experimented with this and swapped the 6l6 for some el34s and it is a nice difference. I can't speak for the older 50/50 but i am 90% sure it is only 6l6.
