it's hard to take someone seriously when they say they don't like the Mesa sound, as if it's one sound

Again, I'm not hating.

Specifically, I had a Mark III head (green stripe). The clean sounded pretty brittle to my ears, and I never could get a distorted sound out of it that I liked. Tried fronting it with a few different OD pedals in my arsenal.......just didn't do it for me. Exact same issue with a Single rectifier head I had a few years later.

It's all subjective.

When I was working with Mesa support to get parts for the green stripe, they were amazing. Mesa support is tops, and their products are built like tanks. Just don't care for the sound. :dunno:

Love Mesa stuff!!!
My buddy has a early 2000's Triple that has been drooped at least 3 times, each time onto concrete...two of those times from shoulder height and the other off a Mesa 4-12 cab and other than some broken tubes that amp is still working like a champ....Something was done right on his thats for sure!!

As an engine, really enjoyed the videos, thanks for sharing. :)

Love Mesa! They need a little tweaking and usually better tubes than what comes stock (at least mine did) but man, what durable machines they are!

Cool video, they seem like a good company. I've only tried a handful of mesa's, but I've never played one that wowed me. Only played them in stores. In the early ninety's I remember seeing the chrome diamond plate head, not the face panel. The whole headshell was diamond plate. When I plugged it in, it didn't have the gain I was expecting. Played a couple used MK3's not enough gain either. When the Diezel Herbert had just come out, a guy I knew had bought one. Went to his rehearsal place with a VHT UL100, we all played through the Diezel,VHT, and a 3 channel Rectifier(don't know the model). If all 3 amps were the same price none of us would have picked the mesa over the Diezel or VHT. A lot of great recorded guitar sounds with mesa's. They're also a lot of great recorded sounds with marshalls, which have to modded or severely boosted to reproduce the sound. With so much studio magic going on, can the recorded mesa tone be reproduced in a live setting? I'm sure if plugged in a MK2 C+ It would NOT sound like AND JUSTICE FOR ALL. Just my experience with them. To be Honest I've probably said some unflattering things about them in the past, same with marshalls(Bashing). But who I am I? 1 in 7 Billion with an opinion. If you like great, if everyone in the world said India Pale Ale's tasted like sewer rat, that would not sway my affinity for it. Enjoy life

Hellyeah Mesa sounds like Mesa live or studio. No need to choke it down or church it up !

My buddy is (was?) a Mesa dealer and I remember in the late 2000's he saw approx half of all the Recto amps he sold come back for warranty work. I think he may have dropped the line (I can't recall) as they were becoming very Gibson-like with their annual buy-in requirements.

I agree, Mesa's in general (especially the 2 ch rectos) are build like brick shithouses.
I tried different amps in the past and came back to a Mesa, being in the form of a 2 ch Triple Recto! :D

Which bashing are you talking about? I'm honestly not sure I've ever seen anyone bashing Mesa Boogie.

Check out TGP, they in general do not like mesas. The mark IV is one of the most disliked there. Doesn't stop me from loving my mark Iva.

Mesa has a certain culture, sometimes is rubs me the wrong way, like with their tubes for example. But in the end I do think they build great amps.

Just got my Mesa Reborn Triple Recto tonight. You can hear and feel the upgrade. This amp is killer sounding. It's tighter no more flubby. 50 watt pushed is killer get those tubes cooking. The clean channel is such a refreshing new sound to the ear ! I thank Erock for pushing me to check these bad boys out.

Lovelovelove my Royal Atlantic. The Tremoverb and MKIV are also killer amps.

The only time I spend on TGP is in the classifieds. Not really my type of culture.

But I can see Mesa being bashed there. It's not a boutique amp, after all.

no thanks necessary my friend, I didn't do anything but put the bird in your ear. Glad you are diggin it, and congrats!

It's funny to me that people would bash Mesa. They've been putting out affordable, well built, great sounding amps for 3 decades. Their customer service is exemplary, and the Mesa "sound" dominated a whole genre of music for over a decade. All that, and they've kept the amps built in America. A lot of companies could learn a thing or two IMO.

That said, wanna trade that jute front panel?

NIce! RS is the fuckin man. And thanks to all the workers in the factory. They build amps all day long every day for the whole planet. If you ask them, I bet they'd say it's not so glamorous.. RS could easily ship it overseas to save a buck. I think their prices are way worth it. Not to mention he makes the best amps. Ohh!

1. Built in the U.S.A.
2. Affordable pricing
3. Amazing tone

What's not to like? Like someone said a lot of other companies would be building in China by now. With all this talk I'm craving some Mark lV tones right now. I need to buy one!!!

Went through a lot of different amps and came back to Mesa as well.
