Anybody have any thoughts or comments on this amp? I'm trying to find a good combo that is fairly versatile. I just picked up a Mesa Lonestar Special and am not sure if it's what I'm really looking for. There is a guy in my area selling a Heartbreaker in mint condition for a great price but before I go to look at it and play it I figure I'd get some Rig-Talk feedback

I owned the combo. It was great for jazz through classic/some hard rock, much preferred it with humbuckers than with single coils though. It's basically a mk I with some other overdrive flavors, and it would not be my choice if you're looking to do metal IMO.

Not really looking to do metal out of it per se. I want a decent combo for my Tele and Strat that might also get into decent gain territory, otherwise I'll just push it with a pedal.

Ok well in that context I would definitely try it first because I felt like its own inherent mark series type voicing didn't play well with my single coil guitars but YMMV.

I have owned a couple of HBs(heads) and a LSS(2x12 combo) Are you talking heads or combos? And what do you not like about the LSS??

I really liked the Heartbreaker combo, but for the love of god, put V30's or something with a little snap in it. The stock speakers are very dark sounding. I put a pair of V30's in mine, and the cleanest channel came to life. It does play well with a TS style OD in front. I liked it with single coils and humbuckers alike. I'd say definitely go try it out.

My biggest gripe with that amp was that the two best tones (IMHO) in the amp are both on the same channel.
