It's true. All the weenies on HC convinced me my amp can't do metal. It's only good for old school, mid honky voiced mid gain crap.

Here's the proof :D

Man, you finally wised up and listened to the pros on HC. Took you long enough! ;) ;)

I wouldn't have believed it until I saw Fleetwood Mac using Rectifiers, so those must be for adult easy listening and not metal either.

Needs more hive-of-killer-bees-eating-the-faces-of-children to be considered metal. If I can hear any clarity with notes, it sucks. Sorry, but you've got to be with the times to be relevant, old timer.

Sure, the Mark IV can do metal, but what you're playing isn't a metal song. ;) :hide:

Nice clip :) "They" would probably call that old school metal

Core gain goes beyond the Mark IV's gain level maxed, as well as more bottom heavy and a modern type voicing with a wider sound field than the Mark IV can produce.

The Mark IV will never impress the Cores or a subset of the death metal crowd :D

You might be able to fool a Core using a boost and clever EQ settings though! :P

Personally I think the Mark IV has more than enough gain to do metal (without a boost) but you'll never convince some people of that.

I've only played a Mark III and it had more than enough gain, I'm sure the IV does as well. That clip has a lot of gain, but I didn't really like the tone that much.

yeah only a quadruple penta rectifier with a boost can do metal

I had no problem playing any death metal or thrash covers on that mark IV. But then again, I dont listen to any CORE, so what would I know?

Needs a boost! :haha:

I dont go to HC anymore, they seriously think a MKIV cant do metal over there?

Liked that alot.

What was the channel/settings for that?

Just the lead channel but i had the middle slider all the way down which i usually have up a little. It was H30 speakers which I'm still getting a feel for. I think the gains were on 9.

Hey Danyeo did you put that H30 in your Bogner cab or another enclosure? :)

I sold the Bogner. I don't get along with 2x12's. This is a Mojo 2x12.

you know, the last time I was on HC, there was a guy on there complaining about "not enough gain"

his rig was a Schecter with seymour duncan invaders, into a boss metal zone, into a 5150 combo.

not enough gain?

In that case, you suggest one of these;

I remember when I had my Engl Powerball. I was wondering why it couldn't do leads very well. I read some threads on HC and it was all clear. I'm just sad that the JVM I just bought isn't a"real" Marshall. I guess I need to sell it and buy a Plexi.

I have to be honest man, the HC n00bs make me laugh. That 'Tallica clip is cool by the way. If anything, it has too much gain imho, but the tone your getting is cool.

It seems the HC guys only consider something metal if it's an accurate reproduction of wasps-in-a-tin-can tone or the afore-posted chainsaws.
