Mesa Boogie Stiletto Stage II ?

Anybody play one and what did you think of it?


Looks like from the schematics it looks like a cool sounding amp.. never played one.
 
I really liked the one I played. IMO much better gain channel than stage 1. It was a couple years ago so I don't remember exactly how it sounded/played, just remember that I really dug the gain structure and the clean was really nice. Wow, lot of help I was! :lol: :LOL:
 
I actually liked the original version better...it was more open and less compressed on the dirty channel. The Stage II upped the gain a bit...still a good sounding amp IMO.
 
I had one. It's a decent amp but not mind blowing good IMO. I'd much rather own a Mk IV or Mk V or even the new Electra-Dyne.
 
The stilettos kick ass. The only amp I regret selling. The stage IIs are great. More modern sounding than the stage I. If you find a stage I, make sure you have the "hollywood/fluid drive mod" done to it. It makes it like a stage 1.5. best of both worlds.
 
I thought the Stiletto was not very good. Even the JVM's sound better than those.
 
I passed in the end. Really wanted to like it. VERY trebly.
Try it with your guitar. Even with a les Paul, treble and presence had to to be dialed back to nothin. I do not like that tone stack.
 
They dial very weird. This is the reason I hated the amp for the 1st couple months I owned it. Then I finally spent some time with it and got over what the knobs looked like. Then I found the amp to be pretty bad ass :rock: The high end was never a problem after that.
 
I liked my brief session with a Stage II. Didn't take long to dial in an acceptable tone, which was nice. Was running a stock 'Paul (Burstbuckers) right into it, with a 2x12 Recto cab I believe? It's been a long time, hard to remember. Liked the gain structure a lot, it wasn't what I was expecting. I went into thinking it would be Mesa's take on a Marshall to the letter, or just the Recto with EL34's in it (which any recto can do...), and I was pleasently surpirsed.

I see that Travis Stever from Coheed and Cambria is using the Stiletto II on stage with the band, and used it on the new record somewhat. Sounds pretty good on the Neverender DVD's, although I prefer their old sound. More gritty.

I actually liked the Lonestar and the Lonestar Special a lot more that day. But the Stiletto was cool too. If I had the cash to have a ton of amps around, the Stiletto would be in the rotation for awhile at least :rock:

I didn't have much trouble with this, but because I had read about it, and the guy at the store told me about it before I plugged in. He saw me going for it through the window of the amp room, and came in. Gave me a few quick tips on dialing it in, and let it rip. He told me I was the first person to make the Mark IV combo in the room sound good, so he was sure I'd be alright :lol: :LOL:
