This is the first time I have ever used a overdrive/boost pedal with my dual recto. I was always against the idea of using a pedal to help or modify the tone of a expensive amp, but it really tightens things up nicely and adds a little more cut and definition.

This is the Bold Setting with Diode Rectification - Red Channel - Maxon OD808

Below are two clips without the boost, one in the Spongy setting and one in Bold.

Sound good man, I just can't justify the sterile feel and loss of dynamics with a boost.

I've found amps that are unboosted (for this type of tone mind you) are lifeless and sterile.
The boost for me actually adds a ton of tight midrange and harmonics. To each there own.

Sounds great man. I have an old blackface recto that sounds great with the OD808.

Yeah I hear ya, I used to think that way too. Then I re-evaluated my whole approach and eleviated my need for a tone crutch.

Id love to hear your clip or vid of you playing some fluid stuff with your recto. The only one ive ever played that sounded right without one is the tremoverb.

Yes, boosts are the way to go with recs. Sounds great man. Try an OCD too, a little more aggressive. I have both and personally like the OCD better. The other thing that is great is an MXR 10 band eq in the loop.

So boost pedals are now crutches?

This place is getting to be unbelievable.

I used to think that way, but now I think you gotta do what you gotta do to get the sound you hear in your head. That clip has me wanting a maxon for my roadster like whoa.

Calm down a little, maybe? There are hundreds of great albums made with rectos...

Just cause I said it, that doesn't make it the new standard.
What I meant was that it was my crutch. I came to terms with that, and did something about it.

Be interesting if you posted a comparison clip without the OD

Yeah, that's cool.

There was another thread recently and someone said an amp goes on the wall of shame or some crap like that if I have to use pedals with it. Yeah, ok, they're all tools man.

People can use whatever they want to get the desired result.

I'm just tired of people criticizing another persons use of a tool because it doesn't work for them.

Anyway, it's all good. ;)

The OD clip def sounds better to my ear. Were your settings the same?
