Played the combo today. To me this amp is aimed directly at the Budda SD80 and Bogner Shiva. This amp has an impressive crunch/gain channel and an even more impressive clean channel. For those seeking a nice Marshall-esq tone with a super sweet clean, or if you're a fan of the Shiva or SD80, definitely give one a try.

+1 I like mine

I am very impressed with the range of tone it does and does them very well. If it was just a bit me metal/shred friendly I'd be selling gear.

Post a video if you can.

I played one not long ago ..... very cool amp.

What about boosting it? Very curious about this amp.

How much gain compared to other amps like the Shiva, JCM 800 etc?

I like it...played one for a bit, it would work no problem.

I wish I could post clips but I don't have anything to do it. I think it can be shred friendly and I guess it depends on your version of metal. I also have a roadster and a mark iv and I can still use the electra dyne for heavier playing without wanting more. I just use a boost and I am all set.

To me it has more gain, but I have not played the new shiva's so I can compare the two. I always wished the shiva had just a little more gain when I owned one. I am happy with the amount of gain the electra dyne has.

Cool amp. My 1x12 combo sounded great. My only complaint was not quite enough gain for me and a very stiff feel. It was very clear and one of those 'shows your mistakes' amps. I traded mine for a Tourmaster head and Egnater 4x12 cab. The ED has a better quality tone and has that warm tube tone that the Tourmaster lacks but the Egnater has a nice feel to it and syrupy lead tones. A trade off but overall I am happier with the Tourmaster.......but damn that ED sounded great..

I have a vid on youtube somewhere of how heavy the ED can get.... search for 'electradyne cranked'. First part of the vid is boosted with my Yngwie strat playing V.H. Unchained and with electroharmonix el34s in it and the second half, some detuned metal riffs and wanking, is my explorer with EMG81, not boosted and with the Mesa branded 6l6 tubes in it. I thought the amp always sounded better without boost, whatever guitar I used. Maybe I need a better boost. It's a Seymour Duncan pickup booster

I have played the new Shiva with KT88s. I would say it has atleast as much gain as the Shiva and SD80.

Here these vids, especially the second one should answer a lot of the questions regarding the tone

I adore mine, I was shocked the first time I heard the vintage high channel roaring through. It got rid of my interests in Shivas or Rockerverbs.

It's a Mesa, so of course the 1x12 is ridiculously heavy, but it's built to withstand a car crash it seems. I wish my gear didn't have to live downstairs, and then require me to drag this up every time I've got a gig, but of my 3 amps this is my main cover band amp now.

The only thing I wish it had was a footswitchable solo boost, but I have an MXR 10-Band EQ I don't use for anything, so that's my clean boost now, which works perfectly.

I also like the 45-watt mode, by the way, it lets me get a fuller sound at home practice volume without having to plug in my THD HotPlate.

One of the best sounding new amps IMO. Played one at a GC last year and freakin loved it!

I really want to try out the ED. Also, the Electra Dyne is TGP approved, which is rare for a Mesa

It's a cool amp and all it needs is an OD pedal to goose it if you want metal tones. It sounds really good considering it's a 1x12 combo.

The ED almost has me saving up. I really wish I would have had enough sense to try a nice OD pedal out front. The clean channel was outstanding. I could see Andy Timmons using one of these.

I have never played through the combo. I have the head, I am not sure how that factors into things, But I really like the head. I would try it with some boost pedals I think it will get heavy enough for you. It sounds great with the cab you have as well.
