What's everyones favorite power tubes for the Mark III?

I've got winged C's 6l6's in the inner sockets C el34's in the outer sockets, sounds killer good.

So you like the III more than the Royal Atlantic? I guess they're just different animals altogether. I play the Royal twice and liked it both times, but I thought a boost Electra Dyne could do anything the Royal could. I'm surprised you can't sell it at $1400.

RA is a great amp for someone just not me, it was fun for about a week   Can't get rid of it to save my life...it's been for sale here and other places for 3 months. Just put it on the Boogie Board this week maybe that will be the ticket  And yes I love the Mark III, one of my favorite amps ever and unlike the Mark V it sounds good with or without the graphic eq.

Doesn't Lamb Of God have any fanboys that need the same amp they're using now?

Tone is in the binding contract of the endorsement deal......

Maybe I will pick up a Mk V and slave it into my Mk III :) or Bogner :D

Found a green stripe that needs a new reverb tank for $700, should I go for it?

I like the =C= 6L6GC's and Philips 7581A's.

As for the 3 vs. 4 thing... I've owned 2 blue stripe MK3's and about 5 or 6 MK4's. The 4, to me, is more of a boxier, metallic type of tone. The looseness of the lows and the way the highs react are fairly similar to what a IIC+ does. The 3 has a deeper, rounded, less flubby low end and the highs are a more extended.

They're both great amps. Hell, I still have a Blue Stripe simul w/ EQ Mark 3, and I have a Mark 4 from the last run. ;) My 3 can be very smooth when I turn the presence down between 0 and 2. If I turn it up to around 5, it starts getting real pissed sounding. I love the 3 because Vernon Reid kicked some ass with one back in the day, and I also love all of the guitar sounds from the Angel Dust album by Faith No More which is what they used for guitars.

You can't go wrong with either one, but the relay switching in the older Mesa amps sucks balls. You get the lovely dip and swell with the volume. The dip and swell is sometimes accompanied with a pop. ;)

Anyway, these are just my own thoughts. They aren't right or wrong. It's a blast to finally be getting back into this again after a 2 year layoff.

Mark V's rule... It takes two years to get through it and taking notes of the hidden sweetspots. a V sound just as good as any of the earlier Mark version. Not an easy dialer tho!

Why not consider a Mark V?

Because they suck. :D

Lol, seems a bit strong. I have one and it most certainly does not suck.

Yeah, you have to disregard comments like that. I'd happily play a Mark V. I guess an act like Dream Theater can tour and record with them but they "suck". :jerkit:

I've never played a Mark III. I'm sure they're great. I've got a Mark IV widebody head that I'll never get rid of. The Mark IV is a classic amp if there ever was one. Whether you get a III, IV or V, you can't go wrong.

Nah. No amp takes 2 years to dial in. There are no secrets to dialing in a Mark anymore. Anyone who has trouble doing it is just having trouble breaking the habits of dialing in a Marshall type amp.

Well, to back that up.. I found new tones/feels of my Mark V after two years I had never seen coming. I used to own a Mark IV. No longer have my Mark V tho... But it's one hell of an amp still.

Looks like my next amp is narrowed down to 2 contenders now :) Mesa MarkIII or a VHT 50 st

if your going for metal-the 50st wont compare to a mark. i had the el84 model(which was nice), but was not a metal amp at all.imo.
