I decided to choose the Drapery Falls by Opeth as my next project. The clip is just the first couple of minutes of the tune. I was mainly trying to dial in guitar tones and set mix levels. I will work on learning the rest of the tune and record the whole thing this weekend. I used my EBMM Petrucci (much more versatile than just shred:thu:) straight into the IIC+. Recorded the bass and used Steven Slate drums. Pulled out the acoustic for the clip too.

What do you think? So far I like the start but have a long ways to go.

Awesome song! The lead tone sounded great, would need an ebow to be like the original but thats just nit-picking :P

Rhythm tone sounded a little weak to me, but I think thats more a mixing thing than an amp thing.

Thanks! No ebow here. This is just my interpretation of the tune. I wasn't necessarily trying to capture the exact tones of the original.

Oh man that lead tone is ripping on these crap puter speakers, cant wait to hear this at home

Killer playing as always bro, outstanding lead tone!

Thanks Scott! Tell me what you think after you have listened to them on your home computer. I'm interested. I do like the lead tone I got. One of my favorites!

I think it sounds pretty good despite being a Mesa Boogie which they don't use. The production and playing are spot on and I like the tone but it doesn't sound right for Opeth. Impressive though!

Thanks! I know they used Laneys (I think). I know Mesa Marks sound nothing like them but cool enough. I like to see how different amps sound compared to how they were recorded.

Man, that sound AWSOME!

DO NOT GET RID OF THAT AMP. It fits you like a glove IMO.

Thanks Jason! I would say it does too.

Yeah, the intro lead tone is WAY huge sounding. But, Chad, you must know that you've dialed in all your amps well and similarly. They all sound great in your hands.

It's a pretty huge task to replicate that rhythm section, it's still lacking a bit, but the lead tone is sick :rawk:

Great song from one of my all time fav albums!

Yeah bro Chad comes in like a freight train, just bringing it

LIstening on the good setup and I love it and agree with JB.......dont get rid of this amp.

Lead is awesome. Rythm should be a little louder and with more "meat" IMO. Overdubs maybe?

Thanks Ivan and Scott! The amp is going no where (it would be too hard to find another one). I agree, I feel like I can essentially find MY tone in just about any amp I play. I sound like "me" through just about everything I play. I have a headshell on the way for the chassis. I figured out why my rhythm wasn't quite right. I forgot to pull the "Deep/Gain" knob. Makes a huge difference. I will see if I can put together an Yngwie clip. I have to be honest, I have never played one of his tunes (way out of my league). :worship:

Yeah, I knew about the ebow but I don't need one. I figured the excessive delay could help replicate the sound at an elementary level. The rhythm tone, I turned the gain down really low on purpose and forgot to pull the "Deep/Gain' knob. Adds some girth. Thanks for listening guys!
