Mesa mark V 25, 35, or 90 ?

Mine is the mkIVa. I find very few flaws. I will have to look at that mod that mesa does to make two lead channels.

Are the schematics out there? I could likely get it done myself.

Is there a name of the mod?

So why are the IIC+ so valued?
Have they not been able to capture that tone in post Mark versions?

Also, I've heard many people state that Marks are not easy to dial in? I briefly plugged into a V 25 and got a pretty sweet tone quickly. Anyhow, as a person who's primarily and currently own nothing but Marshall's, this MV is going to be a breath of fresh air!

They captured the tone just fine in the JP2C (for the most part, considering it doesn't have the same push-pulls). What they were never able to capture again is the FEEL.

The Mini Vs dial in quickly. They really nailed it with these. Here, I just did a new tone comparo vid today.

I had Mike B. mod my R2 on my IVa by goosing the treble / gain, and it still sucked. Don't do this. If you can have him mod it to a clone of the lead channel that would be legit. It'd be a cheap JP2C, but better becasue it has a pentode / triode switch, but worse because it's still not as smooth.

I would love to clone the lead channel.

Pardon my lack of knowledge, but who is Mike B?

:dunno: I like R2 on my Mark IVA. It is by far the weakest channel on the Mark IV, but I can still get good tones from it and it responds well to a boost. I own the mark IVA for its versatility and the lead channel, that is where it stands out for me. Its also awesome to play leads on.

As to the original question, I would go with the mark V:90 over the other two, since for me I would want the 3rd channel that the largest one offers.

There is a Mark III and a marshall 1960a cab on local cl for 1100. I wish I could grab it.

I would take a mkiv over the small mkv's.
Disagree.
I had a MKIV, Rev A, and did not gel with the Rhythm2 channel. Clean was gorgeous, lead was succulent, but it was temperamental too.

Sold it, got a MkV:25 and love it. The sound of the Crunch mode is worth the price of admission alone and I can guarantee you THAT tone cannot be found in the Mark IV.

For $250 you can send the Mark IV to boogie and have them mod the crunch channel into another lead channel. Seeing how Mark IV’s are selling for $700-800, you could have a $1000 amp that kills.

I’ve owned Mark IIC+ IC++, Mark III’s, Mark IV’s, Mark V:25 and am down to a Mark IVa. It has tons of options and sounds great. Of course not as good as a 2C++, but it’s damn close.

Where are these Mark IVs that are selling for $700?

Near to nowhere. Not to mention, I'm not based in the US, so just shipping a Mark IV to Mesa Boogie would cost me over $300 probably...
I'd rather have a fullsize Mark V, that has a dedicated 2nd channel, which I can set to Crunch mode...
(PS, JP-2C is insane money over the pond...)

Boogie does not modify Mark IV's, I've asked. I also asked my tech and he said modding the crunch channel will make the whole amp unstable. Run the gain & ch. master @ 10 on ch.2 and it sounds great.

Keep your eyes open. Last Summer I bought a MINT Mark IV head AND a Recto OS 4x12, also mint, for $800....for the whole halfstack. It was on Craigslist, some guy was moving and just wanted it gone.

But you'll have better luck finding Mark IV combos on the cheap. You can always throw them in a headshell.

There was a beautiful Mark IV for sale here on this forum very recent for $800. You've got to pay attention.

10 o'clock? Or 10 as in max?

I honestly think that I like the mkIVa over the mkV for most things. But there are positive and negative aspects of both.

I will buy a mkiii before a mkV (bearing in mind that I have a mkIVa).
