Mesa Mark v:25 headphone jack question

since the headphone jack is tied into the cabclone feature....does that mean you can plug in headphones and use the amp without a speaker cab connected as long as you turn the speaker off switch to utilize the load resistor?

sorry if it seems like a goofy elementary question but I have to ask

Put switch at speaker off, plug in headphones and away you go!

Let me know your thoughts. I think the cleans sound great but not too impressed with the dirty channels through headphones.

I thought you still need a speaker load connected when switching speaker off.

According to the manual the speaker off switch automatically connects a load resitor to the speaker outputs to prevent damage to the output transformer

Only says not to use the the amplifier in the speaker on switch position without a cabinet. No mention of needing a cabinet connected when speaker off switch is on.

I'm gonna pick up a Mesa v:25 soon.....would be nice to use it with headphones only until I decide which cab I want ....probably will opt for the 2x12 rectifier cab with v30's.

I've got the slant mini recto can to go with it. I had a Mesa 4 x 12 slant recto also and decided to sell it. Not saying it didn't sound better but for only playing at home the mini cab sounded great with it. I bet a 2 x 12 would be great also might even get one one those down the road.

Can I safely run the V:25 using the cab clone or headphone out with no speaker plugged in?

YES! You can definitely set the amp to using the internal load of the CabClone and then connect headphones to the amp or connect the DI Out to a DAW or recording system.

An internal dummy load is a fantastic option that I am glad to see more and more companies integrating into their amp heads (even if it is only in a tiny handful of amps right now). When I had my Laney IRT Studio, the internal dummy load was indispensable because it allowed headphone jamming and quiet recording via its outputs.

I hope that Mesa Mark still sounds good through headphones.

Honestly the headphone and cabclone out dont sound great. By totally re-EQing the amp it can sound pretty good but that is a huge PITA.

I went from a 1x12 mini recto cab with my RV25 head to a 2x12 vert cab and loved the change so much the 2x12 became my goto cab for all my amps! Now I just need to buy a combo to head conversion shell from Mesa!

I've had both. They're basically the same in terms of being tight and focused. With the Verticals you perceive a bit more high end because the driver is typically closer to your ear. Essentially the same though.
