I'm looking for a 2X12.
I saw a Mesa 2X12 Rectifier for sale locally.
I have a 4X12 Mesa Traditional for comparison but never tried the 2X12.
Anybody got experience to share?

Had one for about 6 months. Sold it this week...I tried and tried....Just wasn't me. Built well, just too much bass and no focus.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of...
Was it loaded with V30's ?

Yes...It was a 1994 cab...so they were well broken in. I liked cleans through the cab. But otherwise it was dull. No sustain, no bite at all. Kinda muddy to me. I think my ears are so used to my VHT cab, that i have trouble grasping others.

I like the Recto 2x12, not a bad cab at all imo.

It's tight, directional, and quite bassy for a 2x12 (more bass than a regular 1960A 4x12 with 75's imo), but certainly not boomy like an oversized 4x12 or anything like that...

Yeah, I have a VHT Deliverance 4X12 and that cab is hard to beat.
I'm looking for a cab to bring to band practice and don't want to buy new.

I would be running a Mark IV and my SigX head through it. I wonder how it would sound.

I like them. I just picked one up cheap locally. Most people complain the 2x12's don't have enough bass so i don't mind the fact that it delivers the low end in spades. For leads the cab has a nice throaty tone. The thing weighs a ton though for a 2x12.

And Andy Timmons seems to like them.

I liked the 2x12 better than the traditional 4x12, sounded tighter, however expect more treble & midrange, which you should expect from any 2x12. That said you can't mistake the power of a 4x12 with a 2x12. If you like to shake the ground with riffs, 4x12 is more your territory. If you want to get close to the 4x12 bigness with a 2x12, look into Bogner OS 2x12s.

I have the Traditional 4x12 and the recto 2x12.

Now, I like V30s in general, and they work well with my amps (Triple Rec, XTC, Herbert, UL) so if you hate V30 and the cab is stock, you probably won't like it.

In terms of the cab itself, it is not going to bring the huge sound like the 4x12, but for a little fucker, its VERY full sounding. It is a deep cab, but not tall. It is also a heavy SOB...I have a shitty Marshall 1936, and the little Mesa seems at least twice as heavy.

In any event, its nice alternative to a 4x12.

+1.

I almost couldn't keep my Recto 4x12 until I loaded it with WGS BL-80s. It smoothed it right out, and gave it the big, bassy, clear sound in my head. It was a an ear-grating mess with the stock V30's. My amps are all VERY mid heavy though.

Almost the same experience. I too tried and tried, and it failed every time compared to my Bogner 4x12. Regardless of "hugeness" of a 4x12, it just didn't have the tone compared to the Bogner.

One thing about the Boogie cab is the speakers are really close to the ground. And 4x12's seem to project more mids than a 2x12's, but i really wonder if there's any difference miced up since they both use V30's?

The tone directly out of the front of the cabinet was quite different, so I expect there would be a difference. Different V30s in the Mesa cabs too, right?

Yes, there is a very noticeable difference.

I owned a Bogner OS 2x12, i thought it had a nice "woody" tone to it. The Mesa 2x12's seem to have a lot of bass. I never owned a Bogner 4x12 but i never think it's fair to compare a 2x12 against a 4x12 unless you can stack 2 of the 2x12's together.

I liked the Bogner 2x12, but i wasn't as impressed as a lot of other people with it. It's soo big you may as well just use a 4x12, and it costs more than a lot of 4x12's.
