Hmmm... sold my recto rackmount, but played it last night. Played the Roadster today, along with the Bogner for a few. All three are heads, played through a Bogner slant 4x12 with V30s.
Rackmount had the best modern crunch. It was close, but I think it outdid channel 3 and 4 on the Roadster. Bogner had the best cleans, best marshall mid gain tones (blue channel is God in a box) and was more articulate.
Both Mesas though could push a building down in modern red. It was like I had a subwoofer hooked up to the cab vs playing the Bogner. It just seemed like it went down another octave.
Channel one and two on the Roadster are great - very clean, can get 'bluesy' dirty. Didn't take my tri-boost as well as my Bogner does... I have about 1/2 dozen overdrive pedals, will have to see what works well.
Channel one does cleans pretty well. Not Bogner well, but good enough for a cover band.
I'm thinking a decent overdrive into channel 2 could get me into JCM800ish territory. As is, there's a little better than plexi gain on the Bogner. Not much at all.
Channel three on the roadster set to vintage is my favorite. Throaty, midrangy goodness. Liquid leads, sustain for days, allows a little more slop in your playing than the Bogner, which can turn on you if your chops aren't up to it. I preferred this channel setup for leads.
Channel four I'll probably use for heavy/modern rhythms.
Reverb is a little weak in each channel. Sometimes the channels pop a little when I change them. Bogner is silent. FX loop on the roadster is really good... works well, my DD20 sounded awesome in the loop.
If you like Dual rectos, you'll love the roadster. If you hate them, you *might* dig it... just because it's so flexible. There are a lot more tones in it than just Creed.
I'm not ditching the Bogner though. I am taking the roadster to my next gig and we'll see how it does.
