Hello folks,
have lately visitied a guitar store and soundchecked a Mesa Ace Stieltto head
with an Ibanez AT 300 and was blown away by the clean channel. Didn`t get so far to check the distortion channel, but will go back. Found some clips on You tube which i liked a lot. Maybe the best lead tone i have heard on you tube as far as my taste goes.
Wanted to hear form you how the Stiletto compares to the new Bogner GOldfinger, new Shiva, new XTC. Just wanted to hear your opinion about these amps.

while the mesa sounds good, It is nowhere near a bogner in terms of tone. The bogner will destroy the mesa.

Maybe you are right, but at least with the clean tone i was major impressed by the Mesa. Have yet to try the distorted channel. But i havn`t found a Bogner clip on You tube which impressed me that much!

I never thought the Bogner Shiva was all that better than the Ace.

Both are very fine amps. Really liked the Siva too. So far i don`t know if it`s possible to say that the one is better than the other or if it`s just a matter of taste.
On the other hand i think Andy Timmons has one of the most refined sounds in rock/blues music (imho). Other really impressive amps would be dumbles, Two Rocks or Ceriatone`s. But these are not really versatile and especially the Dumbles and Two Rocks are not affordable in Europe.

I didn't and still don't like the standard Shivas, but I have since gotten a 20th Anniversary Shiva, and it's an entirely different amp with lots more gain and grind. I got rid of my XTC classic I love the 20th Anniversary so much. And, the KT88's make the clean channel the best yet

What is it that you don`t like when you hear those clips?

Ive always liked the shiva. But Im a huge fan of the stiletto. I wouldnt say one was better than the other. Just a slightly different flavor. I know the bogners have an ultra cool boutique status, but the Stiletto is an Awesome amp.

I'm more a fan of Andy Timmons playing than his tone. IMHO, sometimes his tone comes across to me as dull sounding. And i get tired of hearing him always go for that single coil quack.

I hear you on that one. I think Andy really likes that tone and I can see why as it does have a cirtian appeal to some and has a shall I say mature sound about it.

Utube compresses the sound. I have the Egnater Mod series and the Amp and Modules sound so much better in person, although the clips helped me decide. I have a Mesa Mk III also that sounds just like a Mesa Mk III, meaning if you like the amp and your not trying to fight it and make a Mesa sound like a Marshall or Bogner and like the tone then get what makes you happy. Dont Expect a Mesa to sound like anything other than a Mesa, it will never make you happy trying to get a Shiva or other amp tone from it. Hope that made sense?

I think the best way to go is go back and spend some time with the ace and see if the lead tone does it for you. After playing/owning both I would take the shiva over the ace but you might like a different tone.

Yep will go back and most likely get the Deuce. Will then later exchange my JVM with the new Shiva. Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts!
