Here's a new and better comparison of the Triple vs. 5150 vs 412 vs Grossmann Iso Cab. Same settings and approximately the same mic position on the 412 and the Iso Cab. Which one do you prefer and why? (and don't tell me it's too much gain!:) )
Regards, Simon

Im liking the EVH, more mids, clearer... The Recto has a bigger lowend though so I guess it depends on what your going for....Off topic but how do you like that Mesa boost pedal ?

The cab clips sound great, the EVH sounded a little better to me. It sounds like it's more full somewhere in the mid range, making it more articulate. Usually though, I prefer rectifiers to 5150's. I've played a 5153 next to my triple rec before. I'd like to see how they'd sound after some EQing. I, however, did not like the iso clips, lol. It must be hard to get a good, heavy tone out of an iso cab. Biggest problem though, too much gain ;)

I like the Mesa better. I have both these amps (except my Mesa is a Dual). I don't think it's too much gain - I do think the presence and the mids could come up on the Mesa, and the mids can come up and the bass can come down on the EVH. Here's a pic someone snapped of Gojira's settings on the EVH 100. They have a very heavy live sound, they've got the gain at about the same position you have, just not so scooped. The 100 is a bit darker than the 50, so I would run the mids and presence lower on the 50 than I would as they have on the 100.

I like the mesa better on this clip, it sounds darker and maybe gives a better 'ambience' to the song. They don't sound as different as I would have thought however! Must be because they where recorded in the same room, same guitar, equipment etc..

Dude, that's too much gain!
:) JK.

I like the EVH more.
Just a preference cause to my ears it was brighter, more open, even a bit more articulate.

The Triple was darker in tone, perhaps a bit muddier as well.

This is why I'm looking into getting a 5150 mini.

Thanks for the demo.

I like the Grid Slammer. It has more gain (db-wise) than the TS9 and it's more transparent. It has less mids also. It's somehow "neutral". The tone knob is usable throughout. I like to boost my Marshall with the Tubescreamer and for the Mesa i take the Grid Slammer. I wanted to have a Mesa Signal chain :)

Thanks! You're welcome!

Thanks to all! :) I like reading your opinions :) We liked the Mesa a little bit better. But the amps are almost on par. Judging the distorted amp sound, based on the amps alone, the 5150 would be the winner. Boosted, it's the recto.
