I played in a band you'd proabbly consider metalcore for a while, was great fun to play with but even if you try, without going out of the genre it's impossible to be original in writing, that's what I found anyway.

If I had an original idea, it was never a metalcore one.

I do really like melodic death actually.

I like KSE, and they pretty much invented it. I agree that for the most part it sucks now. It turned into another formulaic genre where everybody just does fast intro/melodic chorus/breakdown/part just like melodic chorus but quiet/....melodic chorus.

I mean, no style or genre of music is original anymore and I've even written a couple "metalcore-ish" tunes, but it is way too overdone now. If you really think about it, all music sucks and is overdone.

There are many really horrible metalcore bands; there are also a ton of horrible rappers, hair metal bands, and pop groups.

Killswitch Engage's "The End of Heartache," Architects's "Hollow Crown," Misery Signals's "Controller," and Oceana's "The Tide" are all listen worthy Metalcore IMHO. It really depends on your taste, but I'm open to all sorts of music, whether old or new, sun or screamed, growled or gurggled

Truth. Every genre has its sucky bands mixed in with the good ones. I think it's very evident that many metalcore bands suck because the style is so trendy right now and over the past few years.

Yup, remember how many shitty 80's bands there were along with good ones?
And how many shitty "grunge" era bands there were mixed in with the good ones?
And post grunge bands?
And fucking stupid throwback, "retro rock" bands?
And nu metal, rap metal, rapcore, deathcore stupid-core, etc.... Point is no matter what you call it, there are usually a few really good, talented bands that start something good, and then a bunch of crappy ones (and some good ones) that copy them until it is way overdone.

Then the cycle repeats, and everybody who never moved on or refuses to listen to new music because it was better when they were growing up, says the new stuff sucks. Hey I'm guilty of it too, but there are actually some really talented newer progressive rock and metal bands out there. You just have to look harder for them these days. I"ll shutup now.

How am I trying to conform to anything? I just answered his question. I don't like music based on what it's called, as I thoroughly pointed out in my previous post. I also "like what I like". My favorite guitarists are Jerry Cantrell, David Gilmour, and Dimebag. Dudes who have been copied millions of times, but never duplicated. ORIGINALS!
