There are so many genres of music and everything is catregorized into it's own dumbass category I don't know what the hell people are talking about sometimes I have my own names for everything though, I like to keep only a few categories because I'm simple . I call most of the cookie monster br00talz shit emo screamo just because that's I how I feel about it. Then there's like the regular Oldies, Classic rock, Hard rock, Metal, Thrash, Blues, Jazz etc. All the heavy tuned to Bb stuff falls into one category for me...Emo Screamo. Heavy is a style, not a tuning that any 13 year old kid with white makeup, eye shadow and eyeliner can do

I think screaming can be pretty cool sometimes. Just depends who's doing it. Phil Anselmo always had a cool scream. Chino from (old) Deftones, Randy from LOG. Some music just wouldn't sound as intense without the aggressive singing/screaming. But a lot of em sound like morons when they do it too.

I like all of those guys you just mentioned, the reason being is because they scream but you can still actually understand what they're saying, Phil's my favorite singer out of those guys though, he's got soul Most of the Emo screamo shit that comes out nowadays I can't listen to the vocals, they're just almost inaudible to me. I have no idea what any of it means or what they're talking about. It's like the law of diminishing returns, you can only scream so loud and distorted until no one knows what you're saying anymore

I mean, no style or genre of music is original anymore and I've even written a couple "metalcore-ish" tunes, but it is way too overdone now. If you really think about it, all music sucks and is overdone.

Uh wow, KSE hardly invented metalcore. They're part of the reason why music is saturated with metalcore right now, and why it's going down hill.

I suggest you check out bands like Converge and Zao, since they actually invented metalcore.

I hate the whole idea of an "image". IMO, if you can take away the image and something is still worth listening to, it's good.

I'm not afraid to say I liked Korn before they took on that gay image they did in the later 90s. Even if their music was dirt simple, and their lyrics weren't particularly.....good.....it still kicked ass because of their energy and uniqueness. And I really like that singer's voice if only the words were better!

I don't understand genres either, nor do I care. I think it's all about writing something that you like, and not worrying about what "should" come next or what people want to hear. Now to make it big so I can stand behind that thinking....

I've heard both bands. But Killswitch has been around (in some form or another) since the late 90's. They just didn't get noticed until more recently. I'm just saying that they are one of the more important bands in the genre, and their early work with Jesse Leach is hardly comparable to the whiny, bullshit that's out today. It's saturated now because that's what happens with any good music. A bunch of copy cats jump on the band wagon and it just so happened that it took a turn for the worse and got pretty gay and emo.
In Flames could be credited with the start of metalcore also, and they've been around since about the same time as Zao. (Early 90's) Who cares though? I like the stuff that sounds good, and not the fashion rock.
