George made a post on his official Facebook page saying Metro amps hasn’t gotten government funding and likely won’t be able to survive post COVID.

If you’ve ever wanted a metro amp in your stable you’d better get the order in while you can. I can guarantee they will jump in price and rarity if he is unable to pull the brand name through.

Support your small businesses. I know I’d love an amp of his but can’t swing it right now.

Just passing it along.

I think this will be the case of a lot of small businesses. The PPP has been plundered by hedge funds, well connected medium to large size business that have access to capital and very large Colleges across the nation, with large profit margins and endowments. The first round hardly got to the little guys, if at all. It's 2008 on steroids gentlemen.

Sad news indeed...I hope George can keep it together but his small market share of buyers with spendable income might be evaporating while we speak.

In Metro Amps' case:

Good.

For most other small businesses:

Bad.

I doubt it. He works with Fortin building his amps. Fortin isn’t going to stop putting out amps.

I hope he doesn't throw in the towel. If he really wants to continue on there is always a way. I guess supply and demand for his brand will be the judge. Best of luck to him.

He built the Meshuggahs but it looks like that relationship ended with those amps. The newer amps are all PC board based and look nothing like George's usual stuff.

It’s never good when you have to throw in the towel for something you’ve put your name and life into. You’re part of the problem.

Yeah agreed, it’s very unfortunate how the PPP has screwed the businesses it was meant to save and saved the businesses that had no business applying to, and getting accepted for, the PPP loans. I’m hoping George can restructure and come back with a new business platform. He said touring musicians aren’t a thing much anymore that require his kind of build quality and people are just backing out left and right of his orders over this economic downturn. Good on him for honoring what he does but it likely will mean he won’t pull through.

Those loans taken by Harvard, Shake Shak, Ruth's Chris etc are going to be returned or have been returned... it was not meant for them and they took advantage of a legal loophole that was fixed on the latest tranche that went out. Hopefully any other hold outs will be shamed into it very soon!

I think he was hurting before the pandemic... I think he made some declaration that he would be making no more 100 watt amps- I saw that as a sign something was up months ago

Yeah, I'm a hedge fund and I got zero.

It was the fact that the banks (through which the funds were made available via loans) had every incentive to give them to their biggest customers - they are still loans and even though they are forgivable you have to jump through the hoops to do so. The biggest customers have WAY more ability to get through compliance. It was just shortsightedness endemic to the structure of the law.

That's a pretty crappy thing to say about George.

Well of course you'd say that - you've been in business cahoots with him for years.

How much does he charge you to advertise on his forum, anyways... or do you get a free ride?

I know the drill... and I know some of the players behind the facade.

The one thing I could never figure out (and probably never will) is when will these small guitar gear businesses with their online forums learn?

Hell, they even spill out over here on this forum and try to group-shill their crap. :gethim:

That can only mean that his next amp will be Marshall Major.

Glad he finally saw the light!

Well, sorry to bust your bubble, but I paid George to advertise on his forum, so you have that wrong. And you may know some of the players but there's no facade that I know of...or I just don't qualify to be in on it. Wouldn't interest me if I was invited, I don't believe in that crap.

I use what I know works, what I've used myself, what I built or still build myself, and that's it. I don't know where you got your information from, but it appears you have some axe to grind with George, for whatever your reasons are.

He's always been a straight shooter with me...but maybe it's because I'm a straight shooter and not a dick. I certainly don't want to see his business fail, just as I don't want to see anyone's business fail due to this COVID-19 thing.
