Available Soon! This project has been in the works for about 6 months. Jeff Swanson builds all of our cabs for the MGL Amps line and I've known Jeff for many years. About 6 months ago I asked him if he was willing to go down the rabbit hole of building a detailed replica of my original 1968 Marshall basketweave 1960B 4x12 cab. I let him know upfront that I would probably drive him nuts with details and appointments. He was in and said let's do it! So together we documented every measurement and detail of my cab. I even gave him the location and measurement for every screw in the cab. He made templates for the baffle board and metal caster cups in the top of the cab. The metal caster cups in the top of a straight basketweave are exclusive to those cabs and were changed to plastic by '71 and the last of the basketweave cabs. I had the metal shop that makes our amp chassis copy one of the caster cups from my cab and they made us a run of replicas. They are exact right down to the black wrinkle paint finish as the originals. Replica metal handles are also included on these cabs. We bought all of the last sets that Jim at Scumback Speakers had. Swanson has sourced the exact same cabinet grade Baltic Birch plywood used in the '60's by Marshall. And this plywood still uses the original Urea Formaldehyde glue between layers. Another wood appointment on the '60's cabs was the use of Fir wood for all of the bracing, trim pieces and the large center post. The Fir has a distinct reddish-brown color. No current builders use the Fir as it's expensive and hard to find in premium grade. Swanson was able to source the Fir and it is being used for all of these cabs. We have a limited quantity of very accurate Salt & Pepper basketweave grill cloth that matches the color of the unfaded grill cloth on the inside of my cab. The color is charcoal grey & cream. The current Marshall and other reissue Salt & Pepper has an odd yellow hue to it that is not at all correct looking. We also have a limited number of vintage correct 6" gold faced Marshall logos. The only correct one ever made that actually fits vintage Marshall amps & cabs. Again with this, the Marshall reissue version is not correct. When released and available to order, the base price will be for an empty cab that will include a red & black twisted wire replica harness w/ a black Ciff jack attached and a set of correct speaker screws & washers. We will also be happy to load the cab with the customer's choice of speakers. The first prototype cab is being done in the real Marshall reissue Levant tolex. But many tolex colors will be available when ordering a cab. More details and pricing as soon as the cabs become available to order. Below are some pictures of the progress as the proto cab is being built. Feel free to email or call if interested.
