Man I love Symphony X and Romeo is just amazing. I'm a big fan. He released his new solo album this week. It's pretty damn badass. I'm really liking it, although only started listening today. Anyone out there checking this out?

On a side note, I subscribed to Apple Music a few months ago. Pretty damn awesome service and being able to listen to new albums as soon as they are released is amazing...loving that too.

Great to hear new music from MJR, I will have to check it out.
I used to be a big SX fan when I lived in NJ, and the keyboard player Michael Pinnella‎ worked at my local GC.

Man that was awesome! Thanks for posting. Had no idea he had an album coming out.

It's one of 2 parts to the recordings.... more to follow

Listened to it this AM. Sounds like Symphony X with a different singer, no surprises. He made it sound like a departure from Symphony X, but I beg to differ. It's still good though!

However, new Redemption came out as well Friday, with Tom Englund now on vocals KILLER album. Heavy, progressive metal, with some guest solos from Simone Mularoni from DGM. Dude's sick. Romeo is his hero, (as you can tell), but I gotta say, he's a much more tasteful player. SICK guitar player. He also produced/mixed Romeo's new album.

Never heard these guys.

Checking out "Eyes You Dare Not Meet in Dreams". Not loving the vocals but the music is sick and yeah, tasty guitar playing for sure.

It's the singer from Evergrey. Their previous singer was Ray Alder from Fates Warning.

Check out this album:
The Art of Loss is the sixth studio album of Californian progressive metal band Redemption. This is the first album without guitarist and founding member Bernie Versailles, who is presently on an indefinite medical leave of absence from the band because he suffered an aneurysm in October 2014.[1] To replace Versailles in the recordings, the guitarist and DGM member Simone Mularoni and former Megadeth guitar players Chris Poland, Chris Broderick and Marty Friedman were invited. Vocalist John Bush from Armored Saint also was guest to sing Love, Reign o'er Me, a cover of The Who in duet with Ray Alder.

yeah, new Redemption is killer. better than expected. Romeo’s album is very solid too, but the new Redemption is a frickin shredfest with killer songs.

Will check out the new Redemption. I saw them several years ago at ProgPowerUSA and they were really good live.

I think the Romeo album has some better tunes than the video they released. I would definitely recommend checking out the full album. It’s not a full on shred fest, it’s good songs, great arrangement and a cinematic theme that I really love and of course he has some runs and riffs in there that melt the fretboard.

I listened album few times and it has some great songs. But sound of rhytm guitar is somewhat weak and ''POD'' sounding. He have much better sound in Symphony X. I saw them once live and it was quite a mess with all that keyboards and fireballs :)

wow, pretty good hookline over here

also the solo playthrough

Very cool music, but it's easy to hear who writes the music in SX
Like someone else said, it sounds like Symphony X with a different singer.

I love it. On constant rotation here. Amazing record, that I love more the more often i listened.

Btw (I had another thread on this without replies), anyone can explain me how these robot voices are done on fucking robots? I have no idea...

It’s pretty much just dubstep, can be made with a synthesizer. Example:

They had a rehearsal room at Gear Studios in Shrewsberry near Red Bank. I think that place is gone though. I remember walking past their room and hearing him shred. He's pretty amazing to say the least.

It's often the case where the bands sound follows the guitar player. John Sykes took the Whitesnake 1987 sound with him to Blue Murder. Plant never sounded like Led Zep without Page. And an obscure example would be The Gracious Few which was basically the band live with the singer from Candlebox, and it sounded just like that. Live with the Candlebox singer.

And while were on the topic of prog rock/metal, listen to this if you haven't already.

Man, this guy makes everything look so damn effortless. He's flawless. I think the new material sounds great. I think a new singer was needed.. freshen things up a bit though it isn't a night n day departure from his core sound or anything. Also disagree that it sounds like a POD. Sounds huge to me, a nice thick and cutting high gain sound which appears to be from that ENGL.
