Definite Schenker fan here! I really like UFO Walk On Water - his tone and playing on that cd are awesome!
I like that album alot myself Darren, Schenker brings glory to practically everything that he plays on...

Got my hands on a copy of "Best Of UFO" this weekend. Not diggin' it at all.

I love Schenker. I saw him twice back in the late 80s with MSG opening for Rush on the Hold Your Fire tour (I know it isn't his solo stuff but oh well). He was awesome and, IMO, blew Mitch Perry off the stage with his phrasing and prowess (no offense to Mitch Perry who is a good guitar player). I went and bought some of his UFO stuff and have been a fan ever since. I would love to see him these days but not too many acts come through Utah.

Kage, music is NOT subjective, and your always wrong.
:hys: :hys: :hys:

I too have been listening to Schenker over the last couple of months. I have a couple of his dvds that are great. He is such a melodic player. He is a good example of how good lead sounds do not need alot of gain. I love gain by the way. :D

This immediately comes to mind. Using hands and pick attack to coax as much gain as he can from the amp. About as dry as you can get, but sounds good for such a young guy.

Wow that's about as animated as I've ever seen him on stage! First time I saw UFO was in '75 at Day on the Green in Oakland (w/ Gary Wright, Fleetwood Mac & Peter Frampton) and they just killed. Michael was rooted in place in front of his cabs with the V hitched on his thigh the entire set. Pretty much the same stance he's had each of the 8 times I've seen him. He actually moved a little bit on this vid... who knew?

I understand that everyone has their tastes and preferences and that in the end, music is subjective BUT, any fan or player of Hard Rock that hasnt at one point worshipped at the throne of Michael Schenker should drop what theyre doing and find out what theyve been missing. Ive been on a Schenker kick since I saw him back in June and it beought back all of the amazement that I had when I discovered UFO in the 70's and when I learned some of his stuff when I started to play in the late middle 80's. Hands down, he's one of the most lyrical and melodic masters of phrasing out there IMO and mandatory listening for anyone looking to improve their craft.

Sure, there are loads of great new players out there but the guys that started it all still have alot to say. The same can be said about Richie Blackmore,Uli Jon Roth,Jeff Beck,Gary Moore,EVH,Jimi etc..

Ive been learning some UFO tunes; Doctor Doctor, Lights Out, Only You Can Rock Me, Rock Bottom and Natural Thing and having an absolute BLAST!!! I have a feeling Ill be on the Schenker kick for awhile but Ive been dying to dig into a bunch of Rainbow/Deep Purple as well because I was a fiend for RB as kid before I played..

cool stuff!!!!
Growing upin Germany digging Schenker and playing a V was mandatory.
I've seen him with UFo in the late 70s
Scorpions on the Love Drive tour.
MSG, for the first 3 or 4 tours.

Shoot shoot,Rock bottom, doctor doctor etc..etc and then "Strangers in the Night" live album was my guitar teacher for quite a few months if not years....Still playin all of em!!!

I like the 'newer' tune.......
Gimme your love....
That song just has great hooks!!
Nice saucy leads too!!

Timely post. Just started learning Captain Nemo yesterday. That damn intro is screwing me up big time.

I love the live version. When i first saw this video on the old U-68 channel, i was an instant Schenker fan.

Looking back, Schenker should have accepted the spot as Ozzy's guitarist when it was offered to him. He turned it down because the pay wasn't good, at least that's what i read. You know, do a few Ozzy albums, put up with him and Sharon's shit for a few years, then return to the solo band with a lot more fans who know you.

HI mates!

I agree, he is the one! Not many like him.

I was wondering if someone here could recomend me head amp. You already know what sound I'm looking for ;) Well, specially the sound found in Strangers in the night (what a record!!!) and the early 80s

I've got the V, the wah, and a cabinet full of celestion greenbacks.

The main thing is that I just got tired of seeing everybody using marshalls, any other brands¿¿? I just don't know much about it,

Thank's for all and keep listening to schenker records!

Michael has always preferred 50 watt Marshalls and more specifically, the channel switching JCM800 2205.

wow, just checked out a couple of those youtube clips, Rock Bottom and one other one , awesome player man, He was a shredder for his time, I would imagine you could argue that he was the best of his time. I realize he still plays but at that time.................like 1975, he's just shredding for that era.

Heres Michael back in the day just KILLING Into The Arena

That is actually a rather recent change...especially seeing that there were no 800s before 1980...so all the UFO and the first MSG album have to be JMPs.

Yup the early stuff was JMP's, and then I'm pretty sure from around 1984 and onwards he started using the JCM800 2205's

Whatever he uses, he sounds rippin!
