And obviously that amp is not inspiring Michael Wilton to write great music. :(

+3, but I would have to give 'em a listen, I have heard him get some good tones out of stuff that left me  Wonder what mikes he has on those cabs?

Quick Ryche derail...

I saw them a week and a half ago at the House of Blues.

Disclaimer: Chris DeGarmo WAS the band, for me.

To see Wilton take all of the leads was pretty sad.

They had a kid there playing DeGarmo's parts note-for-note. The only time dude got to take a solo was in the harmony parts (London was particularly tasty).

A further derail:

This is the American Soldier tour.

I dont know the disc. I had never even heard one song off of it.

They played the first song in the set from that disc and after about 2 minutes I thought to myself, this isnt too bad. I might need to pick this disc up.

Then Geoff takes about a minute telling a story about a soldier or something and I got a little goose-bumpy.

Then another song with video. The video has written words about soldiers and shit.

Then another speech, then another song with video, and by the time they were about 5 songs into the suite, I had drawn the conclusion that this is the biggest freaking sell out I've ever seen.

Songs (stories) about old soldier dudes. About little girls who's daddy is away (they went so far as to bring a little girl out on stage to sing a duet  ), songs written "after hours of meetings/interviews with ex-soldiers ), etc.

Pandering to a patriotic lowest common denominator.

I found it quite repulsive.

Then they fired up the Empire suite and I rocked out for the rest of the night.

The end.

I saw the same show at HOB in Cleveland a few weeks ago and I liked it. The American Soldier Suite was a little overkill, but I didn't mind.
BTW the little girl they bring out is Tate's daughter.
The kid on guitar is his other daughters boyfriend. Talk about falling into a gig!

I appreciate the point they're trying to make, but I much preferred the other 2 parts of the show.

Why should that matter?
It's Krank, and no matter where you put the mics, it'll still sound like dirty azz

I heard Queensryche were using modelers on their recent tour...no amps in sight.

The other guitar player is actually Tate's future son in law...

Well, I tell you what, kid can play.

I have been into QR since Rage for Order. At the time I was a beginning guitar player and the sounds on that disc were so "otherworldly" that I couldnt even begin to grasp what was going on.

I never spent a whole lot of time trying to learn DeGarmo's riff. I can probably play 3-4 tunes, but I never obsessed over it (like I'm doing with Tool)...

ANYWAY,

I stood on his side of the stage, about ten feet back and watched like all dork guitar players do.

DeGarmo's parts are VERY VERY intricate/busy and this kid was NOT slacking off. He literally gave me the best view of what Chris was doing all those years ago I've ever had.

I'd be proud to have that kid be my son in law.

Meh, I liked the Rev series 1 that I played a few years back. Not a fan of the Krankenstein though.

I would still like to play/hear that 1980 amp.

......

... wow, all of you need to get your ears checked.

Have any of you played a Krank (and I mean for more than 30 min.) or is everyone just jumping on the " I hate Krank" bandwagon???

If so ... that's sad. :aww:

I've compared this to a Soldano/ Bogner XTC/ Mesa ... blah and blah and I (not only me also) LOVE this amp compared to the others. The Soldano sounded shrill, the Bogner was too loose and the Mesa was muddy.

You know that the sweep knob is a parametric EQ right? So that has ALOT to do with the tweaking.

Granted I don't like the Krankenstien, the Rev1 is an AMAZING amp ... you need to actually sit and dial it right to your needs. Yea I hear "I just wanna plug in and forget it" ..... fine .... but even those with modded Marshalls know there is always the need for tweaking depeneding on the variables (ie Cab, pickups, ect).

So If you've actually played a Rev1 and don't care for it fine, not going to hurt my feelings, I think everyone that pays over $2000 for an amp smokes crack but that's just my opinion. :D

But if you've never actually played one ... STFU ....

I`ve played the Krankenstein and the Rev1 and yeah, you can get one or two workable tones out of it. Nothing more. The rest sounds like utter ass to my ears though. I found a POD through a P.A. sounded much better and is way cheaper. Tone is subjective though, so who cares what I think. And discussing varying opinions on tone is the purpose of this forum, so I`m glad you like something I don`t.

Krank was trying hard to get me to be a dealer a few years ago and they sent a bunch of amps to me. I spent a lot of time with the amps and never got a tone that was very good. No bandwagon here, just an informed opinion.

The Chadwick kind of piqued my curiosity, from clips and descriptions. Anyone have any hands-on with them?
