Meh...

I know some of you guys like these amps but my opinion is:

Krank Amps

+1

+2

And obviously that amp is not inspiring Michael Wilton to write great music. :(
+3, but I would have to give 'em a listen, I have heard him get some good tones out of stuff that left me  Wonder what mikes he has on those cabs?

Krank = yucky.

... wow, all of you need to get your ears checked.

Have any of you played a Krank (and I mean for more than 30 min.) or is everyone just jumping on the " I hate Krank" bandwagon???

If so ... that's sad. :aww:

I've compared this to a Soldano/ Bogner XTC/ Mesa ... blah and blah and I (not only me also) LOVE this amp compared to the others. The Soldano sounded shrill, the Bogner was too loose and the Mesa was muddy.

You know that the sweep knob is a parametric EQ right? So that has ALOT to do with the tweaking.

Granted I don't like the Krankenstien, the Rev1 is an AMAZING amp ... you need to actually sit and dial it right to your needs. Yea I hear "I just wanna plug in and forget it" ..... fine .... but even those with modded Marshalls know there is always the need for tweaking depeneding on the variables (ie Cab, pickups, ect).

So If you've actually played a Rev1 and don't care for it fine, not going to hurt my feelings, I think everyone that pays over $2000 for an amp smokes crack but that's just my opinion. :D

But if you've never actually played one ... STFU ....

Don't take it so personally. Ive played every krank there is and I thought they were horrible and I try them every year at NAMM and I still think they suck. Use what works for you and forget what others think.

The Chadwick kind of piqued my curiosity, from clips and descriptions. Anyone have any hands-on with them?

I played one. I could gig with it, assuming I had a trusty overdrive pedal. However, nothing about it made me want to rush out and go buy it. If you check out the video clip on Krank's website, it really sounds almost exactly like that.

Krank was trying hard to get me to be a dealer a few years ago and they sent a bunch of amps to me. I spent a lot of time with the amps and never got a tone that was very good. No bandwagon here, just an informed opinion.

I was there when He got the first Rev.1, I played it for about 30 minutes, Then I played a JSX, it sounded better and I'm no Peavey fan, played the Cobra and Dragon, they both sounded better, played the Mesa Stiletto and it sounded better. For the money the Kranks are going for, there are a lot better amps out there.

which way did the bandwagon go, and where's it heading? :D

I saw a Krank in a store once, and I didn't like the way it looked, or how it was looking at me. Besides the logo, the thing that got me, was where they placed it in the store, it shouted "look at me", so I concluded it must sound like s***, and moved on...no need to hear it.

I'm kidding! But as many have said over and over, tone is subjective. Let's not get so defensive if someone hates the tonemaker you love. ;)

OP: At least you got responses, unlike my recent Vox AC4 topic. I bet if I changed the title to Blackstar and/or HT-5, it would have been different. :gethim:
;)

Pretty much Krankenstein sucks and I actually have heard lots of good things about the Chadwick or whatever its called.

After initial Krank suckage I have no desire to try out anymore of their amps.

Why should that matter?
It's Krank, and no matter where you put the mics, it'll still sound like dirty azz

      +1!

Thanks for the insight. For that kind of coin, I'd probably look elsewhere.

.... yes.

And Gainfreak, no I don't take anything personaly on the internet .... that would be sad. :D

I'm glad you guys don't have a stick up your ass like some other forums I'm on.

I really love the tone and feel of my Rev1, especially after some tube swaps.

V1: Tung-Sol balanced
V2: Penta Labs C9
V3: Penta Labs C9
V4: Sovtek LPS balanced

I got the Tung-Sol balanced because if they're anything like EH (same tube ... just a little different inside) the quality sucks. Just wanted to make sure I got a good one.

Also have a set of Ruby 6L6GCMSTR wait'n to get put in.

I though can respect everyone's opinion .... I thought my dad's Soldano sounded REALLY nasally. But .... eh ..... some people think they are the King of amps.

Some people LOVE ENGL's ...... screw that German made Nazi crap.

And alot of you still love those old ass plexiglass fuzzy dusk buckets you call an amp.

:hys:

Just fuck'n with you, I can't wait to own a Plexi, I would also LOVE to get a vintage HiWatt and a Matamp. :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

There are so many amps that are on my list .... though the Krank really wasn't at first .... after I've had it for a year it's really grown on me .... now I love it. Next is a VHT or one of my dream amps ... 82' JCM800 :2thumbsup: :2thumbsup:(year I was born). There's a guy here in town that has one modded with 6550 .... bastard said he would NEVER sell it though. :gethim:

I've had the Rev 1 and the Chadwick here and I thought they were pretty decent. Good build quality and I thought they had a pretty cool tone. The company was goood to deal with too, not douchebags like Engl.
Jerry

That's good to hear, because I may be picking a used one up I saw earlier this evening. Looks to be a good price, too...

I haven't had to deal with ENGL, but I wasn't terribly impressed with my Blackmore's innards. 'Heavy Duty' were not words that came to mind. I'm no pro, but some of the solder work looked (and was) dodgy.

Don't give a shit about Queensryche, but I'm interested to hear the new Krank amp!

I have played the Rev1 and liked it. Good tone and really quiet. Also it was very loud, so it lived up to the namesake.

I seem to remember that Krank amps annoyed the HACF folks alot, which actually makes me like Krank more.

Queensryche though...They haven't done anything for my ears since "Empire". I bought the "Mindcrime II" disk and couldn't even finish it.

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on Mindcrime II, but none of the more favorable ones were exactly ringing endorsements. Empire was the last good one they ever made. Or else I've become one of those old dudes who thinks music died along with (insert age-appropriate iconic figure here).

Yeah, because all those Germans are Nazis.

I've played the Rev1 and Krankenstein. I checked them out for quite awhile. I got a couple tones dialed in that I could use, but they definitely weren't anything that made me jump up and down. I don't think they're as bad as everyone makes them out to be though either. Just not my thing.

I picked up the Chadwick. The two-channel series, $650 at the local GC. Nice and clean, sounds really good, I couldn't pass it up.

you can't believe he is really using those do you, my band opened for them in 97, the hear in the now frontier tour, they had all these amps onstage, Marshall, vox ac 30 and so on, Wilton and Degarmo each had 2 huge rackmounted rigs side stage, the amps were just to look at
