95% of guitar-playing life, I've been a BF/SF Fender amp guy.
This is 1st experience playing with amp-generated gain; rarely able to crank any of Fender amps high enough to achieve break up.
I've always relied on pedals for whatever level/type of gain I was after.
That's the #1 reason I added the Micro Dark.
I LOVE this amp: the gain and tone shaping possibilities are perfect for me.
I'd like to get a dedicated cab vs. tapping into the Fender 112, 212, 410 combo spkrs, or 2x15 cabs I have been using.
The combos are all open backs, the 2X15s are both closed.
I don't feel they've given me an accurate picture of what it would sound like thru a dedicated cab of similar config.
I play originals primarily, blend of rock- elements of alt/indie/classic, brush up against a bit of metal- but no drop-anything tuning, chugging, djent or anything involving guttural utterances
.
I feel like a 2x12, poss. convertible, would be ideal, but likely fine with a 112 in 90% of what I'll be doing.
I'd like to avoid 'experimenting', buying/reselling etc if poss.
Any opinions on the "sweet spot" for these?
I know people actually drive 4x12s w/ one, but a) overkill for me, b) seems like that's the outer limits of its design brief.
I want something that's going to allow for the most versatility, really let the little amp shine at it's best, and be a perfect compliment to (foot)switch between with say, a Deluxe or Twin Reverb for a full spectrum of musical styles.
Plan to use MD mainly for: the occasional small-ish gig, 'jams', home recording.
