New VH4 Owner - Can I check a couple things with you?

Did some demos for a project I'm working on yesterday, stuck one of them on soundcloud to see how it fits in as I saw the mini player gets embedded here. Can't get anough audio samples!

Guitar L: Gibson SG, channel 3
Guitar R: Cort MBC1-RS, I cannot remember if I went CH3 or CH4 on this actually, I think 3

Cab: Harley Benton 2x12 with V30s (plesae don't judge, the diezel cabs were _months_ away)
Mic: Thomann MB75-BETA

I think it sounds alright - I wouldn't describe it as super tight, but the clarity and definition of chords is fantastic. Seems to really like to live with the gain and eq all around 12 :) Definitly has the kind of tone that fits better in a mix than it sounds good on its own. I did hook it up to my HDRx speaker for giggles, and it is *astonishing* just how much more like that amp it sounds. Amps definitly affect the feel of playing, but my goodness the sound is in the speaker :ROFLMAO:

(Yes, that image is shitty AI art, but you have to have a laugh sometimes! Didn't even use the 7-string in this one lol)

I spent some more (paranoid) time today comparing, and what struck me is that zeens video _there is no buzz_. You can hear a buzz when not on standby from mine, but not theirs, so I think this is at least going to get an email to Thomann, possibly go back. Gutted.

Unless anyone else gets a slight buzz (from the head, and slightly in the cab) when coming out of standby? I've done another video to get another capture of it. Compared the the HRDx, where I have to put my ear against it to head the transformer (hooked up to the same cab), I do think something is up. You can really head the difference at the end (after remembering to take my finger _away_ from the phone microphone!)

Oh no rush, you're doing me a massive favour, I a
Hi Apologies for the delay. I've taken a video and the forum wont let me attach video, perhaps because I'm new. Do you knew if I can DM it to you? FWIW, its not amazing sound, bit it might help a bit. Approx 30% of the volume of your video.

Not sure about DMs - I've uploaded to (unlisted) youtube videos and shared that link before, which the forum picks up and embeds, it's likely the easiest way.

By way of update, I messaged Thomann before Christmas there with all the videos and they wanted the head back to check themselves. So, I sent it back and just got an email today that 'my order has been dispatched'. No idea if it's new or the same - they haven't actually told me anything but it's listed as a new order, and I had told them if there was no problem with it that they should just keep it when I sent it, so I have to assume that something was wrong? Will know when it comes back by the serial no. and update everyone when it comes in.

Can't wait to have it back honestly - I've been playing the HRDx through the 2x12 while it's been away which it turns out _is a great investment_ for that amp - the cleans are absolutely beautiful. But it will just not do high gain at all! So yes a slanted 2x12 with V30's in it as an extension cab is fantastic, so I learned that at least!

Hi, apologies for the techo-incompetence.

I think that may have been the right move. Their customer care has been flawless, with me at least. I'm guessing their big enough to have clout with the manufacturers and also to go for the whole lifetime customer thing.

Mine is sat on a 2000's Mesa O/S cab and purring away quite happily. It has the 'through' jack so that got me thinking...

I had a decent bonus so I went a bit mad and got 3 amps including the VH4 back end of '25 and a bunch of Lehle switches so my next set up job is to play amp combining games and then after about 27 years of delightful faffing about, integrate them into my main Mesa rig.

What an unbelievably self indulgent way of spending time! How fortunate can one be?

I hope all turns out perfectly, I'm sure the Thomann team will take best care and you'll be falling back in love with the amp all over again!

@Daigaijin reading your thread did make me wonder! You didn't note the previous serial number? Not that I think they would send returns out as non b-stock, but you never know! If its handy, could you take a quick video of the hum on your replacement?

You're right, channel 2 is an absolute gem, think it's my favourite ;)

This is the story of every VH4 owner, myself included. Come for channel 3’s fat huge sounds, stay for the absolute perfection of mid gain articulate crunch that is channel 2. I tried to integrate a Synergy VH4 into my live rig a couple years ago to go with a more Marshall style rig, and I missed channel 2 so so so much.
