I'm looking for an od pedal that is the low- medium gain, that has a sound that's more on the raw/ gritty side of things. So far, the MXR distortion+ and Visual Sound open road have got my attention. I'm not looking for any kind of tube-screamer pedal. What are some other options that don't break the bank?

Lovepedal OD-11 or Timmy can do this and more. Both are very versatile with the Timmy being my choice between the two.

EHX soul food? great pedal for the money imo , like 60 dollars or something

Another vote for the Timmy. Great pedal.

If you want to break the band, the Kingsley Jester is another great choice....

i like the Butah by cmatmods... but i sold it long ago cmatmod should have build his pedal with better quality parts..

Joyo US Dream $39 (suhr riot clone)- best bang for $$ IMO

or mooer makes a nice rat clone "black secret" $88

I never tried them but like the biyang pedal clips I've heards

Play around with some EHX pedals - they are solid, giving what you want, and won't break the bank. AND they've got a HUGE repertoire of stomps

EHX soul food sounds great in this demo and for the money its worth trying.

Depending what you're after. MXR Super Badass M75 is pretty awesome for 70s-80s stuff. If you have serious dough though, check out Metal Pedals including Blue Crunch, Bombshell, and Snake Bite (discontinued but if you send them an email, they may create on request).

For 60s stuff, I like Way Huge Pork Loin or Green Rhino.

I actually think the ZW-44 is a fairly decent mild/gritty pedal. It's made to add some grit to an already overdriven circuit, but when it's thrown in front of a clean signal, it's great to add some breakup to the tone. IMHO, I think it sounds colder than some other TS9s and 808s, but it sounds more "open"...

Adding breakup is more of what I want it to do. I'm looking for just a slight OD, something that's almost a fuzz box, but not quite. Something that will push the amp slightly grittier. I'm going to be using it with a VHT pitbull with the red channel as my clean and want a gritty OD box to kind of give me a nice dirty clean.

I've got a Riot. It not what I'm going for.

Xact Tone Solutions make some amazing overdrive pedals. Namely the XTS Precision & the XTS Atomic.

I just wish somewhere in Europe would distribute them at a reasonable price. :aww: I'd be all over them.

Something thats like a fuzz box made me instantly think of Way Huge Green Rhino or T-rex Mudhoney. But again, those are a bit more 60s sounding.

What kind of genres of music do you play?

I'm investigating the EHX pedals. The Soul food, OD glove and Lumberjack all seem like contenders.

Hard Rock, classic rock, garage rock, alternitive lite-rock. All I want to do is add grit to a tone I like already, without really changing the tone much.
