I just spent a decent amount of time with one of these in a guitar center, it was kinda nice there today actually, I was the only person in the store pretty much. I was really impressed with this amp. I usually don't like the recto series of amps, so I was pretty taken back by it. I used a basic hss strat and I fell in love with the clean "pushed" mode with the gain up pretty high and the vintage mode. I only turned it up to around 9 oclock and it was slightly above loud speaking volume. Do these have enough volume to for band rehearsals and unmiced gigs with just a 1x12? I'm the only guitarist in my band now and our drummer isn't super loud, though our bassist is rocking an ampeg 8x10. Any other comments or quirks about this amp? Am I way late to the party on these lol?

No one owns one of these guys?

Also side note: there is a big thread on tgp about guitar center dropping Mesa. Rumor that they might be discounting current stock. The salesmen in the store I went played dumb about this, any one hear anything else about it? I wouldn't mind buying a new one at a discount.

I had one for a while - liked it a lot. Can't speak to the band issue other than to say 2xEL84s is not going to give you a huge amount of clean headroom no matter what. Straight volume shouldn't be an issue I don't think but, crystal clean? Might be tough.

There are a ton of great tones in that thing and the size and price are both great...might grab another someday.

ps - I'm not a recto guy either, normally.

I don't have one, but it will be my next amp. I love them, they're great sounding little heads. From what I've read, they can hang with a modest drummer, but once you get them loud they lose the headroom. If that's not a concern, then they're fine in a band context.

Yeah I don't use any true clean tones, I roll my volume back, im not concerned for headroom. I'm hoping it will be enough volume as the tone was great I thought. I think the el84's really add something special with that circuit, lot less fizzy and tubby then I remember rectos to be.

I just got a mini recto last month. Like ratter, I cant speak to how it will stand up in a band setting, but I'm running mine through a recto 2x12 cab and its pretty damn loud. My guess is that it should be fine in a band setting with 2x12 or a 4x12.

I was playing an old Marshall in my local Platinum GC and the guy in the room next door was playing on the Mini-Rec, it sounded fantastic...so much so I went next door to see what he was playing through. PRS Custom 24 straight into the Mini into a Bogner Cab, $1000 for tone that was pretty solid and thick. For a portable rig, it's impressive.

Yeah I can't stress how impressed I was pushed mode. I was getting some great acdc/ thin lizzy tones with it. Instant gas with just that one mode. Vintage gain was really nice as well, I didn't even try the modern mode yet.

Do you play it with a band? Is it loud enough, that's pretty much my only concern for it. People say that a budda sd18 is loud enough and I run my classic 50 with two tubes pulled so I'm thinking it will be, but I've read some posts on other forums saying it's just under the right volume with a loud band.

Played it with a loud drummer. No problem at all there but it was in a small room and thru a 4x12. Cant see vol being a problem depending on what cab you put it thru.
